That was the sharing of President Vo Van Thuong at the program Honoring Vietnamese doctors and awarding prizes for the 6th "Silent Sacrifice" writing contest held at Ho Guom Theater, Hanoi on the evening of February 26. The program was held to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2024).
Speaking at the program, President Vo Van Thuong sent his congratulations and gratitude to generations of doctors who have been and are performing the task of protecting, caring for, and improving people's health.
The President emphasized that over the past 69 years, imbued with the profound teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, generations of cadres, doctors and medical staff have always strived and worked tirelessly, overcoming many difficulties, and devoted themselves to the noble mission of "treating and saving people".
Among the medical staff, there are many names that have become shining symbols of medical ethics, dedication, daring to think, daring to do, and wholeheartedly serving the sick. Many achievements in specialized medical fields have become the pride of Vietnamese medicine, recorded on the world medical map. From there, good prospects have opened up on the path to conquering challenges and limitations in the treatment of rare and serious diseases.
However, the President also stated that the medical sector is still facing barriers and bottlenecks such as inappropriate policies for medical staff, difficult living conditions for medical staff; regulations and laws have not kept up with reality; the level of medical management, medical finance, and financial autonomy still have many problems; the working environment is sometimes unsafe; and overloading in upper-level hospitals... are obstacles to the work of caring for, protecting, and improving people's health and the work of doctors, which need to be resolved in both the short and long term.
According to the President, in the immediate future, it is necessary to perfect policies so that medical staff can work with peace of mind, create a favorable environment for doctors and medical staff to practice their profession; protect, support and encourage the spirit of innovation, daring to think and dare to do; apply digital transformation, technology transfer, strengthen grassroots healthcare, prevention, combine traditional medicine and modern medicine... to increasingly improve the quality of health care for the people.
The President also said that the journey of curing and saving lives and taking care of people's health is a journey without end, the hardships and difficulties of the medical profession never end and require every doctor and medical staff to always make more efforts.
Every doctor needs to always keep the passion for the profession, have the spirit of exploration, research, acceptance of new things, master advanced, specialized, modern science and technology, and train and foster the next generation of young people in the medical industry.
With medical ethics, intelligence, talent and great aspirations, the Vietnamese medical team can set new visions, high goals, and strive to bring the Vietnamese medical sector to the top of the region and reach the world.
Ms. Dao Hong Lan - Minister of Health - also expressed gratitude to the medical staff in the whole industry. "From the bottom of my heart, please allow me to express my admiration and pride for the medical staff and workers in the whole industry. Thank you for always being resilient, overcoming difficulties, being creative, daring to think and dare to do to achieve proud results," the leader of the Ministry of Health emotionally shared.
At the program, in addition to honoring the medical team on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27, the organizers also awarded prizes to 15 finalists of the 6th "Silent Sacrifice" writing contest.
