Thairath newspaper reported that Thai police searched the home of "a famous Thai League 1 club president" after he was found to be involved in a large online gambling ring. The club is known to be based in northern Thailand.

On May 23, Thai police raided an online casino. The operation involved Thai police chiefs and local police. Multiple raids and searches were conducted simultaneously in six provinces in Thailand, including two locations in Chiang Mai, with the others in Prachinburi, Nonthaburi, Bangkok, Buriram and Sa Kaeo.

The president of a Thai League 1 football team had his home searched.

The Thai police leader shared with the press: " From the investigation process of the online gambling service provider, we discovered that they illegally organized many activities such as football betting, baccarat and many other forms of online gambling. The management locations were searched and we discovered that there was a connection with the president of a football club in the North ."

During the investigation, the police discovered how the chairman communicated and assigned tasks to his subordinates. The gambling ring's revenue was about 10 million baht per month. Many supercars and real estate were purchased with illegal money. Along with that were many accusations of money laundering.

According to Thairath, the club president, who is currently living in a luxury villa in Chiang Mai, has denied any involvement in the gambling ring. Police are continuing to consolidate evidence in the case.

On May 24, Thai League 1 ended with the championship belonging to Buriram United, runner-up was True Bangkok United, and the relegated teams were Lampang FC, Nong Bua FC and Nakhon Ratchasima FC.
