The Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue (PCTT& TKCN) of Quang Tri province has just sent a telegram to the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Border Guard; the PCTT& TKCN Steering Committees of districts, towns and cities; the PCTT& TKCN Steering Committees of the departments of: Agriculture and Rural Development, Health, Education and Training, Transport, Construction, Culture, Sports and Tourism, Information and Communications; Quang Tri Maritime Port Authority, the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the Provincial Radio - Television Station and Quang Tri Newspaper on proactively responding to severe cold and strong winds at sea.

Proactively respond to severe cold and strong winds at sea

According to information from the Quang Tri Province Hydrometeorological Station, from January 22, Quang Tri Province will be affected by a strong cold air mass. On land from January 22, the north to northeast wind will gradually increase to level 3, coastal areas to level 3, level 4, gusting to level 5. From the night of January 22, the weather will turn cold, with mountainous areas to very cold; the lowest temperature in the plains will generally be from 14-16 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas from 12-14 degrees Celsius.

At sea, from January 22, the sea area of ​​Quang Tri (including Con Co Island) will have north to northeast winds gradually increasing to level 6, level 7, gusting to level 8. Waves will be 2-4m high, and the sea will be rough. From January 22 to 25, the Quang Tri area will have rain, some places will have moderate rain and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

To proactively respond to severe cold and strong winds at sea, implementing Document No. 22/VPTT dated January 17, 2024 of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue on responding to severe cold, damaging cold and strong winds at sea, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue requests the Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of localities and related units to implement the following contents:

1. Regularly monitor and update weather developments and promptly inform the authorities and people to proactively implement measures to ensure safety for people, especially the elderly, children, and students...

2. Proactively notify and guide the community; post warning signs on roads where landslides are likely to occur to ensure safety for people and vehicles participating in traffic.

3. Specialized agencies proactively inspect, urge and guide the implementation of cold prevention and control for people, livestock and crops.

4. Coastal districts and Con Co island district coordinate with the Provincial Border Guard Command, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Quang Tri Maritime Port Authority:

- Monitor and update developments of strong winds at sea; provide timely information and warnings to owners of vehicles and captains of ships operating at sea to proactively prevent, ensure safety and have appropriate production plans.

- Maintain communication, prepare forces and means to promptly rescue when situations arise.

5. Organize the duty shift seriously, report the natural disaster situation in the locality and unit promptly to the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue through the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue to handle when a situation occurs.

The Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control requests the Steering Committees for Disaster Prevention and Control of localities and units to direct the implementation.
