In order to ensure safety and minimize incidents related to trees during the rainy and stormy season, since mid-May, communes, wards and related units have stepped up pruning, lowering height and cutting down trees with pests and rotten trees that are at risk of falling and causing danger in Lao Cai city.
Vo Nguyen Giap Street is one of the most spacious and beautiful streets in the city with rows of lush green trees along both sides. Before the rainy season, relevant units checked the number of trees on this street to implement plans to ensure safety for people living on both sides of the street as well as traffic participants.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet in Group 5, Binh Minh Ward, Lao Cai City shared: In recent years, the weather has been erratic. Like this year, thunderstorms and strong winds appeared quite early. There are many trees near my house in the hot season, which is nice because of the shade, but when it rains heavily and the wind is strong, I am afraid that the trees will fall and break branches, causing danger. Cutting them will make them a little more exposed to the sun, but it will ensure safety. During the rainy and stormy season, workers come to trim the trees near my house, which makes me feel more secure, because trimming will help reduce damage caused by thunderstorms, limiting falling trees and broken branches.
On Vo Nguyen Giap Street, after checking and identifying trees that needed pruning, workers from Lao Cai Green Park Enterprise promptly trimmed branches and lowered their height. Some types of trees such as: acacia, dracontomelon, black star... with large diameter and height, heavy canopy, leaning or growing crookedly, dry, wormy, rotten branches... were all trimmed or cut down depending on the actual situation, avoiding danger to people's lives and property.

Similarly, to minimize damage caused by trees breaking or falling during the stormy season, and to ensure the safety of people and property, right from the beginning of the stormy season, the Green Park Enterprise has reviewed, developed plans, and established teams to prune branches, lower the height, and cut down trees that are dangerously damaged by worms, rotten, or dead.
After reviewing the actual situation, assessing the safety as well as ensuring urban aesthetics on the roads in the city, specialized units and local authorities have preliminarily determined the expected number of trees that need to be pruned, controlled in height or cut down before this year's storm season. Specifically, during this period, there will be nearly 4,000 urban trees that need to be pruned and cut down. Of these, about 2,500 trees are being pruned and sprouted; 1,200 trees are being controlled to cut the top, reduce the height and more than 100 trees will have to be cut down to ensure safety.
According to Mr. Doan Hai Nam, Green Park Enterprise (Lao Cai Province Urban Environment Joint Stock Company), to ensure the safety of traffic participants, when cutting, pruning branches or cutting down the tops, the enterprise always has signs and people on guard. Tree pruning is a job that requires a lot of technique as well as standing in high positions, so the issue of labor safety is taken seriously.

According to Mr. Nam, this year's tree pruning was proactively implemented by Lao Cai Green Park Enterprise earlier than previous years because of the fact that since the beginning of the rainy season, there have been many thunderstorms. Due to the propaganda, most people are clearly aware of the need to prune trees and actively cooperate with specialized units to speed up the progress of the work.
This year, for tree pruning, Lao Cai city prioritizes central streets with high population density and traffic, school areas; critical roads, riverside roads, roads with sidewalks and underground infrastructure leading to trees at risk of instability. Priority is given to pruning trees with large diameters and heights, heavy-canopy trees, dangerously leaning trees, trees with crooked canopies, trees with overhanging branches (especially dry, decayed, rotten branches)...

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chien, Director of Lao Cai Green Park Enterprise said: We are prioritizing and focusing on streets with many large diameter trees such as Vo Nguyen Giap, old streets, or perennial trees that need to be cut, trimmed, and controlled to ensure safety during the rainy and stormy season, as well as public areas.
According to Mr. Chien, not only during the rainy season but at any time of the year, if people see a risk of trees causing safety hazards, they can immediately report to the local authorities, then report to the Urban Management Department and the Urban Environment Joint Stock Company. After receiving the information, we will check, review and immediately agree to deploy appropriate plans to ensure safety for the people.
The rainy and stormy season is approaching, and it is forecasted that this year the rainy and stormy situation will have many complicated developments. Proactively implementing plans to prevent and combat natural disasters, including cutting and pruning trees, will minimize damage and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
