That was the direction of Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien during his inspection trip to prevent and control storm No. 6 and the flood situation in Huong Hoa district this morning, October 27.
Due to the impact of storm No. 6, in Huong Hoa district, there was moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall from 33-98 mm, causing flooding from 0.3 - 0.5 m in culverts and overflows on some national highways, inter-commune and intra-village roads, such as: Loa and Hun village culverts (Ba Tang commune), Huc-Pa Lu culverts (Lia commune), causing isolation in some localities.
To proactively respond to storm No. 6 and the flood situation, Huong Hoa district has organized a serious on-duty team, closely monitoring the storm's developments to deploy forces, vehicles, and equipment to promptly handle incidents. In particular, forces are ready to evacuate people from dangerous areas to safe places.
It is expected that about 18,785 people will be evacuated from storm-affected areas; 14,395 people in areas affected by floods and inundation, and 6,688 people in areas at risk of flash floods and landslides to safety.
Inspecting the Amaccao Quang Tri 1 Wind Power Plant area in Tan Lien commune, the spillway bridge of Tan Lien - Huong Loc inter-commune road, the spillway bridge at km 12+771 of DT.586 route, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien requested Huong Hoa district to strictly implement the motto of prevention first, focusing on mobilizing resources to carry out the work of responding to, preventing and fighting against storm No. 6 and floods.
In particular, pay special attention to responding to landslides and flash floods that may occur in the area; organize the installation of warning signs, assign forces to be on duty 24/7 in dangerous areas with high risk of flooding; review and be ready to deploy evacuation plans, especially for residential areas living along rivers, low-lying areas, and areas at risk of landslides.
In the long term, the locality will urgently coordinate with relevant agencies to review locations at risk of landslides to develop maps to develop timely and effective response plans during the flood season.
For projects under construction in Huong Hoa district, it is recommended that the locality coordinate with the Department of Transport to strictly implement safety measures during floods. In particular, the project to build new overpasses for people at km 3 + 937 and km 12 + 771 on DT.586 route requires the Department of Transport to direct the contractor to speed up the construction progress, strengthen the warning system and safety measures in these two areas under construction.
