This afternoon, April 22, the Secretariat held an online conference to disseminate and implement the contents of Directive No. 32-CT/TW dated April 10, 2024 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and sustainable fisheries development (Directive No. 32). Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department Ho Dai Nam; Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department Le Thi Lan Huong; Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee Ho Thi Thu Hang; Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Dao Manh Hung; Secretary of the Dong Ha City Party Committee Le Quang Chien attended the conference at the Quang Tri province bridge.

At the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan reported the main contents of Directive No. 32. Accordingly, to promote the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and ensure sustainable development of the fisheries sector, the Secretariat requested to step up propaganda, dissemination of laws, raise awareness of Party committees at all levels, Party organizations, authorities, cadres, Party members, businesses and coastal and island fishing communities about sustainable development of the fisheries sector and combating IUU fishing.

Promote the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, mass organizations, and press agencies in mobilizing, propagating, raising awareness, responsibility, and sense of law compliance, promptly reporting violations, praising, and rewarding organizations and individuals who have well implemented policies and laws on combating IUU fishing, contributing to the early removal of the European Commission's (EU) "yellow card" warning.

Improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, especially with European countries and the EU, strengthen diplomatic measures, seek support from relevant parties to soon remove the “yellow card” warning; do not let fishing vessels and fishermen illegally exploiting in foreign waters affect relations with other countries.

The conference also heard Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang present the Government's Action Program and plan to implement Directive No. 32.

Within the framework of the conference, delegates from ministries, branches and localities focused on exchanging, discussing, sharing difficulties and obstacles and proposing solutions to improve state management capacity in combating IUU fishing; achieving the goal of removing the "yellow card" warning in 2024 and maintaining sustainable results, contributing to socio-economic development; protecting sovereignty and sovereign rights over seas and islands; strengthening political and diplomatic relations and Vietnam's position internationally.

Speaking at the conference, Standing member of the Secretariat and Head of the Central Organizing Committee Truong Thi Mai emphasized that the implementation of Directive No. 32 is an important, urgent task of long-term significance for the sustainable development of the fisheries sector; it is the responsibility of the entire political system and society.

At the same time, he affirmed that although there are still many difficulties and challenges, with full awareness and drastic actions, the Party, the State and the entire political system, agencies, localities, cadres, party members, fishing communities... will soon complete the goal of removing the "yellow card", bringing the fisheries industry to sustainable development, improving the material and spiritual life of fishermen and workers.

Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Commission Truong Thi Mai requested relevant provincial and municipal Party Committees, Party executive committees, Party delegations, and Party committees directly under the Central Committee to study, thoroughly grasp, and widely disseminate this directive to cadres, Party members, and the People; develop programs and implementation plans; organize inspections, supervisions, rewards, and commendation of collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements; consider responsibilities and strictly handle violating organizations and individuals.
