WATCH CLIP: Large rock rolled down from the mountain near a house
Today (September 20), the leader of Con Cuong town (Con Cuong district) said that in the past few days, heavy rain and strong winds have occurred in the locality. In the town, 6 rocks rolled down from the mountain near households, including 2 large rocks.
The rocks rolled down about 5m from the house, affecting the family of Mr. Nguyen Huu Kiem and Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, in block 7 and 8, Con Cuong town.
Luckily, two large rocks got stuck in the tree trunk, so the two households escaped. Both rocks are estimated to weigh about tens of tons.
These two households were mobilized to evacuate from the dangerous area and had to sign a commitment not to return home during heavy rain, to prevent risks from falling rocks.
Immediately after receiving the news, local authorities and rescue forces used cables, chain blocks and crossed wooden poles to hold the two rocks.
Also this morning, the local government of Con Cuong district used a drill to break up large blocks of rock and move them to other places to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Two cracks appeared on the mountain
In another development, in the past few days, in Thong Thu commune (Que Phong district), some cracks 20-40cm wide have appeared on the mountain top, posing a risk of landslides that threaten people living below. Local authorities have been propagating and mobilizing people to be vigilant, not to enter dangerous areas and to be ready to evacuate when necessary.
Mr. Luong Van Huan, Chairman of Thong Thu Commune People's Committee, said that in recent days, the area has had heavy rain. The commune authorities sent people to the mountain to inspect and discovered two cracks halfway up the mountain that were at risk of landslides.
This crack appeared in 2023. This year, the crack in Muong Phu village has widened about 20cm and is more than 7m long. The second crack is 40cm wide and more than 4m long. Both points are about 1km apart and more than 1km from the residential area. Thong Thu commune authorities have put up signs warning people about the risk of landslides in this area.
The commune chairman also said that at 2 landslide risk points, there are 33 households that must be relocated to the Pu Sai Cang resettlement area. Of these, 16 households were relocated first, and so far 4 households have been persuaded to prepare for relocation.
