Billionaire Gerard Richard Williams has just added a file to his lawsuit against singer Dam Vinh Hung at the California Superior Court in Orange County, increasing it from 30 pages to 338 pages.
In the new lawsuit, Mr. Gerard stated that singer Dam Vinh Hung was at fault for causing damage to his property worth "tens of thousands of dollars."
Specifically, in the incident that occurred on the evening of February 19, Mr. Gerard allowed a third party to use his mansion in Newport Coast (California, USA) for free as a party venue with a commitment to implementing safety measures for the event.
During the party, singer Dam Vinh Hung and his dance troupe performed on a stage behind the fountain. He climbed onto the fountain to perform even though "this structure was not intended for that purpose."
Mr. Gerard believes that Dam Vinh Hung was at fault for ignoring the visually fragile structure of the fountain. The upper part of the fountain was designed for water to flow, and was not capable of supporting human weight.
Therefore, the male singer may have been aware of the risks but still acted "recklessly, unwisely and inconsistently with the usual level of caution as other guests".
After the incident, Mr. Gerard paid all of Dam Vinh Hung's treatment costs in two installments of 27.6 thousand USD (700 million VND) and 1.98 thousand USD (50.6 million VND).
He was upset, saying that Dam Vinh Hung was "deceitful and fickle" when he first thanked him, then demanded 15 million USD (381 billion VND) and is now suing for 50 million USD (about 1,270 billion VND).
He raised the issue that if Dam Vinh Hung sues for 50 million USD, he must prove to the tax authorities his income before the accident.
The lawsuit file is accompanied by hundreds of pages of appendices including a series of photos showing Dam Vinh Hung's "recovery and mobility" through running, dancing, jumping from high steps, climbing stairs...; information about the 27 shows he performed in from May to July; photos of text messages he sent asking Gerard and his wife to pay 15 million USD... and many other contents.
Mr. Gerard asked Dam Vinh Hung to compensate 1 USD (25 thousand VND), pay court fees, attorney fees and apologize to him and his family.
As for Dam Vinh Hung, according to the website of the California Supreme Court in Orange County, he has just decided to change his lawyer and at the same time withdrew his request to dismiss the lawsuit.
Recently, the case of singer Dam Vinh Hung suing Mr. Gerard Richard Williams demanding 50 million USD (about 1,270 billion VND) caused a stir in public opinion. After the accident on February 19, Dam Vinh Hung was seriously injured, had to amputate several toes, canceled all schedules in March and April, suffered significant financial and mental damage, and sued for compensation. He believes Mr Gerard “failed to carry out proper inspections and maintenance of the building items” when using the fountain as a stage and outdoor drinks counter. The California Supreme Court took up the case on November 4, with a hearing scheduled for June 2025. In early December, the singer announced that he had withdrawn the lawsuit and apologized to Mr. Gerard for "being angry and making an incorrect decision that was not true to who I am." |
