In the days approaching the Mid-Autumn Festival, Tran Hung Dao Street (Hue City), from the beginning of Phu Xuan Bridge to the intersection with Dinh Tien Hoang Street, becomes more vibrant and bustling than ever with the lion dance market.
With only a short distance of about 200m, this neighborhood is famous for many shops specializing in selling lion heads as well as lion dance accessories and props such as drums, masks of the local god... to serve the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The lion heads are hung high by the vendors, forming long rows of various colors and designs that attract the eyes of everyone passing by.
Depending on the size and level of decoration, the price of lion heads here ranges from a few million to 10 million VND, and some customers even order lion heads for tens of millions of VND.
“In addition to the paper mold, the decoration of details from the eyes to the borders, feathers… determines the spirit and selling price of each lion head,” said the owner of a lion head shop on this street, adding that these days, they sell from a few dozen to even hundreds of large and small lion heads.
Traveling nearly 100km to Hue to buy a lion head, Le Van Minh (residing in Quang Tri province) said that after a long time choosing, he finally found a satisfactory lion head for 2 million VND. This amount of money was pooled together by a group of young people of Minh's age to entrust him to go to Hue to buy a lion head to perform in the neighborhood during this year's Mid-Autumn Festival.
“The lion heads in Hue are beautiful, colorful, durable, and rarely tear during performances, so I chose to go a little further to buy them,” Minh said.

Most of the customers who come to buy are young people, some are from Quang Binh and Quang Tri.
In addition to the lion head, accompanying items such as drums, costumes, masks, fans and many toys and mid-autumn decorations are also sold for prices ranging from several hundred to several million each.
Not only outside the main road, the alleys in this section are also used by vendors to hang all kinds of lion heads, so when people set foot in any place, they feel like they are lost in an artistic, colorful street.
