This creature has met with a terrible accident.
According to Dodo, in January 2024, while walking along a forest trail with her dog, a woman in Pennsylvania (USA) noticed something strange. Her dog ran towards a pile of dry leaves, sniffing and barking anxiously. No matter how much she pulled or pulled, the dog refused to move.

The woman knew there must be a mysterious creature in the pile of leaves. However, she was still shocked when she discovered a wounded owl underneath.
The feathered creature was almost completely submerged by the brown ground and leaves. The woman immediately called Raven Ridge Wildlife Center and sent a photo of the owl. Rescuers knew they had to act fast.

They rushed to the scene, gently picked up the owl and took it to the center for further examination. Initially, the rescuers feared the worst. "The owl was unable to stand, it was shaking, unable to open its eyes, cold, dehydrated and dazed. We started resuscitation with a warm incubator, IV fluids, medication and continuous monitoring every 30 minutes," a representative for the center said in a Facebook post.
Wildlife rehabilitator Tracie Young couldn’t say for sure what happened to the owl, but she suspects it was attacked by a skunk. Young told The Dodo she’d never seen so many owls in such a state.

Eventually, thanks to the dedication of many animal experts, the resilient owl made a full recovery. The rescuers excitedly took the healthy owl to a wooded area and released it back into the wild.
"When we opened the crate door, he knew exactly where he was. He wasted no time flying into the trees above," Raven Ridge Center wrote in a Facebook post about the owl's release.
