(Dan Tri) - On the morning of November 9, at S8 station - Cau Giay, Hanoi People's Committee held a ceremony to put the elevated railway section Nhon - Hanoi Station into commercial operation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan assessed that urban railway is an important mode of transport, providing a high-quality public transport system, large transport capacity, stability, reliability, safety, and environmental friendliness. Many countries have been prioritizing the development of urban railways to solve problems of traffic congestion, accidents and reduce CO2 emissions into the environment, opening up space for socio-economic development. The development of urban railways in Hanoi is a key and inevitable task of the new development stage. Practice has proven that wherever transport infrastructure is developed, new development space is formed, and land funds are effectively exploited. After more than 3 months of commercial operation, the Nhon - Cau Giay section has shown the attraction of the new means of public transport. Up to now, the route has served more than 2 million passengers, becoming a convenient daily means of transportation for a part of Hanoi residents. The operation of the Nhon - Cau Giay elevated section is a driving force for continued investment in the construction of other urban railway lines, in order to form a modern and synchronous public transport network, best serving the travel needs of the people. In addition to the achieved results, Mr. Tuan requested the units operating and managing the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station elevated railway line to always ensure convenience and safety for the people. In particular, the management board and contractors need to focus on speeding up the progress of the remaining packages to soon complete the entire line. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Vietnam Olivier Brochet said that to build the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway line, the French companies selected and participating in the project have brought to Vietnam cutting-edge technologies with the best international standards. Delegates performed the inauguration ceremony of the project celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) (Photo: Nguyen Hai). "In the fields of space, railways or energy, through its financial resources and expertise, France can support Vietnam in its development process and we hope to strengthen this cooperation within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership," said Mr. Olivier Brochet. Immediately after the commercial operation ceremony, the delegates held a ceremony to inaugurate the project to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) for the elevated section of the Hanoi Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station pilot urban railway line and the inauguration ceremony of the METIS artwork. METIS public art work titled "5am, Hanoi wakes up" by artist Nguyen Xuan Lam is located at S8 station - Cau Giay (Photo: Nguyen Hai). The METIS public art work titled "5 am, Hanoi wakes up" by artist Nguyen Xuan Lam was presented to Hanoi by AFD through the METIS fund. In collaboration with the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, the work is located at S8 - Cau Giay station. The work blends history, culture and nature, creating a lively interactive space, with the desire to enhance the public transport experience and send a message of environmental protection to each passenger on the green journey. This is the first public art work in Vietnam to be located at an urban railway station. The work is inspired by the design of Hanoi's "clanging" trams in the early 20th century, depicting a massive fossil train car made from more than 15,000 ceramic pieces with a height of more than 2.8m and a width of more than 3.5m in a melting state, evoking associations with the phenomenon of global warming.
The Hanoi urban railway pilot project, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station section is an important project in urban transport planning, aiming to solve traffic pressure, reduce air pollution, and improve the quality of life of the capital's people. With a length of more than 12.5 km, the 8.5 km elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay has officially been put into commercial operation since 8:00 a.m. on August 8.
