Mr. Phan Van Son (born in 1985) in Phu Long hamlet, Phu Thanh B commune, Tam Nong district (Dong Thap province) is one of the pioneer farmers implementing the le le farming model, bringing a stable source of income for his family.

Mr. Phan Van Son shared: “Once, while watching TV, I saw people in Bac Lieu province successfully domesticating teal and raising teal and wild ducks profitably... so it motivated me to learn how to raise them to earn more income for my family.

After researching, I found the model of raising teal very interesting, so I decided to renovate 2,500m2 of rice fields, dig a pond, cover it with B40 nets and buy teal breeds to raise. Teal is a wild animal that needs a quiet place, limited human presence and engine noise...

After mastering the knowledge and techniques, in 2021, Mr. Son designed a barn system and 2 incubators for le le eggs; at the same time, he invested over 22 million VND in Bac Lieu province to buy 20 pairs of 4-month-old le le breeding birds (the price of le le breeding birds is 800,000 VND/pair) and 60 2-month-old mallard ducks for 6 million VND to raise.

Because it is a wild animal, before raising le le, Mr. Son registered with the authorities.

At first, when the le le were still small, Mr. Son fed them industrial food with high protein content. When the le le flock grew bigger, Mr. Son supplemented their food with water spinach, water hyacinth, etc.

According to Mr. Son, although it is a wild animal, if the le le is raised for 3 months or more, the breeder can sell it.

On average, each commercial le le, Mr. Son sells for 230,000 - 240,000 VND/bird. Since raising le le birds until now, Mr. Phan Van Son has sold many batches, each batch from 30 - 50 commercial le le birds.

Commercial le le is a specialty that Mr. Son sells to restaurants and eateries in the locality, Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.

Not only selling commercial teal birds, Mr. Son also lets teal birds lay eggs and hatch them to sell as breeding birds. According to Mr. Son, teal birds lay eggs after about 8 months of raising. Each year, female teal birds lay 3-5 eggs, each time laying 8-10 eggs.

The breeder puts the le le eggs into the incubator for about 28 days until the eggs hatch into baby le le. Currently, Mr. Son is raising nearly 200 le le. Of these, there are 40 parent le le. Two le le egg incubators are operating day and night, with each incubating capacity of 300 - 400 eggs.

Mr. Son is preparing to breed parent le le and select commercial le le to sell to restaurants, eateries...

Mr. Son's income from selling commercial le le and le le breeds is quite stable, contributing to improving the family economy.

Mr. Le Ba Linh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Thanh B Commune, Tam Nong District (Dong Thap Province) commented: "Mr. Son's le le farming model started in 2021. He is a pioneer in le le farming in the locality...".

After 2 years, Mr. Son's wild bird farming model has been very effective, bringing stable income to his family.

“Mr. Son's model of raising teal and wild ducks is developing effectively. The Commune Farmers' Association has also encouraged Mr. Son to expand, build a brand and strengthen his profile to participate in startup competitions…”, Mr. Le Ba Linh affirmed.
