The peak day of "Volunteer soldiers remember the source of drinking water" on War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27, in Ho Chi Minh City is a reminder for every young person to have the responsibility to follow in the footsteps of tradition, keeping the morality of drinking water remembering the source in today's context.
The goal of today's youth is to preserve and promote the revolutionary achievements of previous generations, not to retreat before the challenges of the times, and to devote their youth to the sustainable development of the city and the country.
Ms. TRAN THU HA (Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union)
Faced with challenges, young people do not retreat
At Ben Duoc Temple (Cu Chi District), Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union Tran Thu Ha told the young generation that today, July 27, is a day of remembrance and pride.
"We remember and are proud of the heroic sacrifices of tens of thousands of soldiers and people of Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh, now Ho Chi Minh City, for the resistance war to save the country. Compared to the boundless sacrifices of previous generations, our work today is so small" - Ms. Ha expressed.
Ms. Ha said that on this occasion, each member of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union joined hands in many projects and tasks in response to the peak day of activities of drinking water and remembering its source. They have been participating in volunteer activities on the streets, in each neighborhood, construction site, canal, in remote areas towards the 25th anniversary of the summer youth volunteer campaign with the youth of the whole country.
To express gratitude to the generation of fathers and brothers who died for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, the youth of the city named after Uncle Ho carried out the project of digitizing the tombstones of martyrs at martyr cemeteries in Ho Chi Minh City.
Three systems for searching for martyrs’ graves have been completed at martyrs’ cemeteries in Ho Chi Minh City, Cu Chi District, and Rung Sac (Can Gio District) and were given to the locality on this occasion. The project will be continued by young volunteers at cemeteries with many martyrs’ graves in other areas of Ho Chi Minh City in the near future.
Having worked at the cemetery for 23 years, Mr. Bui Van Tin - head of the management board of the martyrs' cemetery in Cu Chi district - said that to support the work, he and his colleagues, in addition to managing the books, also enter data into the computer to make it easier to search when relatives of martyrs need support.
He said he was very pleased when the young volunteers donated this project to the management board with information on more than 8,800 tombstones here, helping to access the information needed to search much faster than before.
"Now, whether I am on a business trip or not, it is very easy to help relatives find the tombstones of martyrs. They just need to go to the website https://www.anhhunglietsi.vn, enter the information and they will find it right away" - Mr. Tin said.
Mom's story is like yesterday
At noon, the delegation visited the heroic Vietnamese mother Nguyen Thi Troi, born in 1919, currently living in An Nhon Tay commune (Cu Chi district). Mother Troi had two children, martyrs Nguyen Thi Suong and Nguyen Van Mo. Having given birth to 13 children, she sent nearly ten of her children to join the revolution. In addition to the two eldest children who died, Mother Troi also had a second child who was a war invalid.
The young people gathered to listen to the stories about the few remaining memories of the heroic mother who is now 105 years old. She said that having peace is the greatest happiness for everyone, so even if she lost the children she carried and gave birth to, she was still willing to sacrifice for the Fatherland.
At that age, my mother was still quite lucid, her voice was still clear and she still had time to tell the students "you are still young, you must study to build your homeland to be more modern" when they said goodbye.
On this occasion, the students also started repairing the house of gratitude of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoang's family in Go Noi hamlet, An Nhon Tay commune (Cu Chi district). Meanwhile, the project of concreting the alley in this commune has been completed and handed over to the people for use. The alley was carried out by Green Summer soldiers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), Malaysian students and local youth.
There was also the construction of the national flag road, tree planting, visiting and giving gifts to families with meritorious services on all volunteer fronts last summer...
Easy to search and find
The system to look up information about martyrs' graves at the Cu Chi district martyrs' cemetery has just been installed with a touch screen to help relatives of martyrs and everyone easily look up information, located at the cemetery management board. The project has just been completed and many relatives of martyrs have come to ask for guidance on finding the location of their relatives' graves so that they can find them as quickly as possible.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phung (63 years old) has gone back and forth several times to find the grave of martyr Nguyen Van Hue, her brother who died when he was only 17 years old. Mrs. Phung said that several times before she went with her mother to visit his grave, but this year her mother is no longer there, she wanted to visit him alone but found that "all graves are the same", she only remembered that her brother was lying near the place with the apricot tree.
The volunteers just need to swipe the screen, type in the name of the martyr, and immediately find the location of the tombstone they need to find, then lead Mrs. Phung to find it. "When he died, I was very young. Now I'm starting to get old, my memory is gradually fading, luckily thanks to the support of the young people, I found him quickly" - Mrs. Phung said tearfully.
