At the World Cup Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt) round, Chiem Hong Thai met veteran athlete Eddy Merckx in the semi-final match this afternoon (December 7). This is a 13-time World Cup champion.

In the first rounds, Eddy Merckx continuously took the lead. At the end of the first round, the Belgian player led Chiem Hong Thai by 11 points: 26-15 (in 3-cushion carom billiards, when a player reaches a score of 25 or more, the match will be interrupted).

In the second half, Chiem Hong Thai tried his best, but he could not overcome his opponent. The only time he significantly reduced the score with his opponent, Chiem Hong Thai reached the milestone of 23-26. After that, Eddy Merckx continued to demonstrate his bravery and extensive experience.

The Belgian player made no mistake, ending the match with a 50-39 victory over Chiem Hong Thai.

Despite losing in the semi-finals, this is still considered a successful tournament for Chiem Hong Thai. In the quarter-finals of this year's tournament, Chiem Hong Thai defeated the reigning World Champion Cho Myung Woo (Korea).
