Students who do not pass all three of their regular admission wishes to public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City have the opportunity to apply for additional admission according to the latest decision of the City Department of Education and Training.

On the afternoon of August 2, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a document allowing additional enrollment in public grade 10. Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training reviewed the actual enrollment situation at educational institutions and decided to enroll additional students in grade 10 for the 2023-2024 school year, ensuring the reception capacity of educational institutions.

Immediately after receiving the city's approval, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training officially issued instructions for additional enrollment in public grade 10 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Specifically, the additional candidates are students who do not pass all 3 normal admission wishes to public high schools and have a total entrance exam score of 3 subjects: Math + Literature + Foreign Language + priority points (if any) greater than or equal to the standard score of the 3rd wish of the public high school they want to register for admission.

Each student can only register for additional enrollment at 1 public high school that has not yet met its assigned enrollment quota and cannot change schools after submitting the additional enrollment registration application.

High schools that have not met their assigned quotas and the remaining quotas are as follows:

Students submit their application directly to the school wishing to enroll additional students. The application includes a report card of the 10th grade entrance exam results issued at the secondary school and stamped with a red seal.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also noted that public high schools that have not yet recruited enough students according to their assigned quotas should establish a supplementary admission council to recruit 10 students. This council is responsible for receiving applications within the prescribed time, ensuring that candidates must meet the prescribed conditions.

The Council will base on the admission records, remaining admission quotas and the total score of 3 subjects: Math + Literature + Foreign Language + priority points (if any) to determine the score from high to low until the quota is met.

Schools will use the Department's exam management software to consider candidates eligible for additional admission. In case the number of admitted candidates exceeds the remaining quota due to many candidates having the same score, the school's Admissions Council will adjust the number of admitted candidates in the spirit that the number of admitted candidates does not exceed the remaining quota.

According to the Department's statistics, currently 108 high schools do not have enough 10th grade students according to the approved quota. The schools with the most shortages are Long Phu High School (283), Nguyen Van Linh (282), Nguyen Van Tang (214), Trung Lap (157), Binh Chanh District Sports Gifted School (136), Ngo Gia Tu (120), Vinh Loc B (109), Long Truong (105).

Candidates are expected to submit additional applications from August 4 to 5 p.m. on August 8. Schools will consider admission on the Department's software, following the principle of selecting from highest to lowest and not exceeding the quota.

The supplementary admission list was announced on August 11. Students enrolled for three days, August 14-16.

The 10th grade public exam in Ho Chi Minh City took place in early June with nearly 96,000 candidates taking the exam. Of these, about 77,300 students were admitted (80%). This year, nearly 5,000 students who were admitted did not enroll. Not only in suburban schools, but even top schools with high admission scores still lack dozens of quotas.
