The average retail electricity price was adjusted up by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) from October 11 to VND2,103.11/kWh (excluding value added tax). On that basis, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued retail electricity prices for groups of electricity users and electricity prices for electricity retailers.

Electricity price increase from today: What does EVN say, which customers have to pay the highest electricity price increase?

The more you use, the more you pay.

This price is implemented on the basis of Decision 28 of the Prime Minister on the structure of retail electricity prices; price framework of retail electricity prices and regulations related to electricity prices.

Accordingly, the retail price of electricity for households using electricity is divided into 6 levels according to the retail electricity price structure. Level 1 from 0 - 50kWh will cost 1,893 VND/kWh; level 2 from 51 - 100kWh will cost 1,956 VND/kWh; level 3 from 101-200kWh will cost 2,271 VND/kWh.

Level 4 from 201-300kWh costs 2,860 VND/kWh; level 5 from 301-400kWh costs 3,197 VND/kWh; level 6 applies from 401kWh and up with the highest price of 3,302 VND/kWh.

Thus, compared to the old price structure, level 1 will increase by 87 VND; level 2 will increase by 90 VND; level 3 will increase by 104 VND; level 4 will increase by 131 VND; level 5 will increase by 147 VND; level 6 will increase by 151 VND.

This electricity price reflects the nature of progressive pricing, the more you use, the higher the electricity bill you have to pay, thereby affecting electricity usage behavior, improving electricity saving efficiency.

Assessing the impact of the increase in electricity prices on the cost of electricity for household customers, EVN said that for households using 200kWh or less of electricity, the cost increase is not much.

However, for households using 201kWh or more of electricity, the cost of electricity usage is higher.

Specifically, for households using less than 50 kWh of electricity (accounting for 11.51%), the electricity bill will increase by about 4,350 VND/month. For the group of customers using from 51 kWh - 100 kWh (accounting for 15.53%), the electricity bill will increase by about 8,850 VND.

Using 200kWh/month or less, additional electricity bill is nearly 14,000 VND

For the group using from 101 kWh - 200 kWh (accounting for 34.31%), which is currently the largest customer group, the electricity bill increase is about 19,250 VND/month. The group using from 201 kWh - 300 kWh (accounting for 18.5%), the additional amount is 32,350 VND/month.

For customers using 301 - 400 kWh of electricity (accounting for about 8.87%), the additional electricity bill is 47,050 VND/month. For customers using 400 kWh or more (accounting for about 11.28%), the additional electricity bill is about 62,150 VND/month.

According to EVN, the total number of household customers using electricity from 200kWh/month or less is 17.41 million households, equivalent to 61.35%. The additional electricity bill for these households is 13,800 VND/household. Thus, the impact on common household customers (consuming less than 200kWh/month) is moderate.

For production customers, at voltage levels from 100kV and above, the normal hourly price is 1,728 VND/kWh; off-peak hours are 1,094 VND/kWh and peak hours are 3,116 VND/kWh. For voltage levels from 22kV to below 100kV, off-peak hours are 1,136 VND/kWh and peak hours are 3,242 VND/kWh.

For voltage levels from 6kV to below 22kV, the low-peak hour is 1,178 VND/kWh and the peak hour is 3,348 VND/kWh; for voltage levels below 6kV, the low-peak hour is 1,241 VND/kWh and the peak hour is 3,474 VND/kWh.
