The VIX Index is an index measuring the volatility of the US stock market, developed by the Chicago Board Option Exchange (CBOE). This index is calculated based on the expected volatility of the US stock market over the next 30 days.
Experts often refer to this index as an index that shows the level of fear of investors in the market. When the index increases, it means that the level of concern of investors increases. When the index decreases, it means that investors are excited. Thus, the VIX index often fluctuates in the opposite direction of the stock market.
The VIX spike occurred as the Dow Jones fell more than 950 points (2.37%), the S&P 500 fell 2.56%, and the Nasdaq fell 2.85%. In addition, concerns about inflation returning to the US economy are also causing concern among investors.
