According to data released by the General Statistics Office on December 6, the consumer price index (CPI) in November 2024 increased by 0.13% over the previous month. Compared to December 2023, the CPI in November increased by 2.65% and compared to the same period last year, it increased by 2.77%. On average, in the first 11 months of 2024, the CPI increased by 3.69% over the same period last year; core inflation increased by 2.7%.
8 groups of goods and services with increasing price index
The housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased the highest with an increase of 0.87%, mainly in the following items: Kerosene price increased by 3.57% compared to the previous month due to the impact of price adjustments during the month; gas price increased by 2.25% because from November 1, 2024, domestic gas prices will be adjusted to increase according to world gas prices; housing repair service prices increased by 0.62% due to increased demand at the end of the year; house rental prices increased by 0.45% due to high real estate and apartment prices; housing maintenance material prices increased by 0.28% due to increased cement and steel prices in the context of increased electricity, coal and packaging prices; household electricity prices increased by 2.03% compared to the previous month.
The group of other goods and services increased by 0.29%, of which: Jewelry prices increased by 2.35% following domestic gold prices; watch repair increased by 0.12%; personal care services increased by 0.1%; environmental sanitation services increased by 0.07%.
The beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.26%, mainly due to the increase in the price of raw materials for beverage production and the US dollar exchange rate. Specifically: The price of fruit juice increased by 0.52%; carbonated soft drinks increased by 0.45%; mineral water increased by 0.42%; cigarettes increased by 0.33%; alcohol of all kinds increased by 0.29%; beer of all kinds increased by 0.1%.
The garment, hat and footwear group increased by 0.21% due to increased labor costs, material costs and shopping demand when the weather changed seasons. Of which, the price of footwear services increased by 0.5%; fabrics of all kinds increased by 0.41%; garment services increased by 0.27%; ready-made clothes increased by 0.23%; hats increased by 0.22%.
The culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.2%, mainly focusing on items such as newspapers of all kinds increased by 0.66%; watching movies and music increased by 0.47%; ornamental plants and flowers increased by 0.41%; sports services increased by 0.29%; children's toys increased by 0.18%.
The education group increased by 0.11%, of which the price of educational services increased by 0.11% due to the tuition increase of some private kindergartens, colleges, vocational schools, intermediate schools, universities, and postgraduate schools.
The group of household appliances and equipment increased by 0.08% due to increased consumer demand during the wedding season and the transition to winter. Of which, prices of plastic and rubber products increased by 0.51%; rental of household appliances increased by 0.49%; gas stoves increased by 0.32%; other electrical appliances and beds, wardrobes, tables and chairs increased by 0.29%; bathroom water heaters and kitchen equipment increased by 0.23%; household appliance repair services increased by 0.18%; voltage stabilizers increased by 0.14%; service staff increased by 0.11%; home textiles increased by 0.1%; glass, ceramics and porcelain increased by 0.18%.
The group of medicines and medical services increased by 0.05% due to the changing weather, increased flu and respiratory diseases, so the demand for pain relievers, fever reducers, respiratory drugs, vitamins and minerals increased. Of which, pain relievers and fever reducers increased by 0.27%; digestive drugs increased by 0.12%; cardiovascular drugs and vitamins and minerals both increased by 0.07%.
3 groups of goods and services with price indexes decreasing
The transport group decreased by 0.07% due to: Air passenger transport prices decreased by 11.04%; Rail passenger transport prices decreased by 4.1% due to decreased demand; Gasoline prices decreased by 0.14% compared to the previous month; Used car prices decreased by 0.13%; New car prices decreased by 0.04%. In addition, some items increased in price: Diesel oil prices increased by 2.96% due to the impact of price adjustments during the month; Lubricant prices increased by 0.1%; Motorcycle repair prices increased by 1.03% compared to the previous month; Bicycle repair prices increased by 0.55%; Other spare parts of motorcycles increased by 0.27%; Motorcycle tires and inner tubes increased by 0.25%; Motorcycles increased by 0.24%; Bicycle tires and inner tubes increased by 0.21%; Other spare parts of bicycles increased by 0.15%; Bicycles increased by 0.14%.
The food and catering services group decreased by 0.22%, of which: The food price index increased by 0.33%; food decreased by 0.5% (contributing to a 0.1 percentage point decrease in CPI); the group of eating out increased by 0.26%.
The post and telecommunications group decreased by 0.3%, of which: Prices of regular mobile phones decreased by 0.99%; prices of smart phones and tablets decreased by 0.46%; prices of fixed-line phones decreased by 0.04%; accessories for smart phones and tablets decreased by 0.03%. On the contrary, phone repair prices increased by 0.47% due to increased labor costs.
According to the General Statistics Office, core inflation in November 2024 increased by 0.24% compared to the previous month and increased by 2.77% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first 11 months of 2024, core inflation increased by 2.7% compared to the same period in 2023, lower than the average CPI increase (3.69%), mainly due to the prices of food, foodstuffs, electricity, education services, and medical services, which are factors affecting the CPI increase but are excluded from the list of goods for calculating core inflation.
