On the afternoon of September 27, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue received comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba, Chairman of the National Assembly of the People's Power of the Republic of Cuba, who led a delegation to visit Vietnam and attend the 50th anniversary of the visit of Leader Fidel Castro to the liberated zone of Quang Tri province, South Vietnam (September 1973 - September 2023).

Expressing his joy at meeting again with comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue warmly welcomed comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez leading a high-ranking delegation of the Cuban Party and State to visit Vietnam and attend the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Cuban leader Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated zone of South Vietnam in Quang Tri.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said he still holds good memories of his visit to Cuba in April 2023, especially the warm feelings, the respectful, friendly, thoughtful reception and many exceptions that the Cuban Party and State gave to the delegation; speaking at the Special Plenary Session of the 10th Cuban National Assembly and being accompanied by comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez along the length of Cuba. "Only brothers and comrades can give each other such sincere care and reception," said National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his joy at returning to visit the beautiful and prosperous brotherly country of Vietnam and meeting again with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. He was moved and thanked the Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue for welcoming the delegation as soon as they returned from a long overseas trip. During their stay in Vietnam, the high-ranking Cuban delegation deeply felt the strong affection of the Vietnamese people for Cuba and Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The President of the Cuban National Assembly said that the official visit to Cuba by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue is of great significance, contributing to strengthening the traditional relationship between the two countries' National Assemblies as well as between the two Parties, the two States and the two peoples. The Cuban people will always remember the speech of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue at the Cuban National Assembly because the speech clearly demonstrated the Vietnam-Cuba relationship. The visit also promoted economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez also expressed that he will always remember the honor of speaking at the plenary session of the Vietnamese National Assembly, before key leaders of Vietnam and delegates of the Vietnamese National Assembly.

The two National Assembly Chairmen highly appreciated the continuous exchange of delegations at all levels between the two countries in general and the two National Assemblies in particular in recent times. After the official visit to Cuba by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, many agreements between ministries, branches and enterprises of the two countries are being actively implemented. To promote cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the coming time, the two sides need to continue to promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially between the Friendship Parliamentary Groups and the agencies of the National Assembly. The two National Assembly Chairmen also agreed to organize a meeting between the Inter-Parliamentary Committee of the two countries in 2024.

The President of the Cuban National Assembly thanked the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue for inviting the Cuban National Assembly to send a delegation of young parliamentarians to attend the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi. On behalf of the Party, State and People of Cuba, the President of the Cuban National Assembly thanked the Party, State and People of Vietnam for their assistance in the past time; and the support of the Vietnamese National Assembly for the Cuban National Assembly to become an observer of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his delight that the exemplary, loyal and steadfast brotherly relationship between Vietnam and Cuba continues to be consolidated and strongly developed. The Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach importance to and wish to further strengthen the traditional solidarity, friendship and cooperation, especially with the Party, State and people of Cuba. In the context of the rapidly evolving, complicated and unpredictable international situation, Vietnam always attaches importance to its relations with traditional friends, including Cuba; and consistently implements a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue thanked the Cuban National Assembly for sending a delegation led by Vice President Ana Maria Mari Machado to Vietnam to attend the 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians, contributing to the overall success of the conference. This was a conference with a record number of delegates, adopting the first joint statement in the history of the conference's 9th organization.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue suggested that the two sides step up coordination at multilateral international forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and other multilateral parliamentary organizations; and support each other's stance on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two National Assembly Chairmen agreed that the two countries need to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation. National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez emphasized that Cuba considers promoting economic, trade and investment relations with Vietnam to be of strategic significance; and thanked Vietnamese businesses for the presence in Cuba. Currently, Vietnamese businesses are leading investors in the Asia and Oceania regions in Cuba. Cuba looks forward to welcoming Vietnamese business delegations to visit and explore investment opportunities in Cuba.

The Economic Committee of the Cuban National Assembly also looks forward to welcoming the Economic Committee of the Vietnamese National Assembly to visit and exchange operational experiences. Cuba highly appreciates Vietnam's achievements after 36 years of renovation, considering them its own achievements. Recalling the famous saying of Leader Fidel Castro in Quang Tri in 1973 "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give its blood", National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez said that the Party, State and people of Cuba always maintain that spirit with the Party, State and people of Vietnam.

Affirming that Vietnam will continue to support and ensure food security for Cuba, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue suggested that both sides promote their potential, identify key areas of cooperation; promote cooperation, joint ventures and investment in accordance with the needs, conditions and capacity of each country; and request Cuba to pay attention to and remove obstacles and difficulties, creating conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to feel secure in investing in Cuba.

The two National Assembly Chairmen also agreed that the two countries need to strengthen cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, and biology.
