Many people in the house tried to put out the fire but failed, so they climbed over the railing on the first floor to escape to the house next door. A few minutes later, the fire spread upstairs and engulfed the house.
Ms. Hoa, who lives next to the burning house, said that some tenants were able to escape in time. "The fire was raging, many people had to bang on the doors of the houses next door to call for them to escape for fear of the fire spreading," Ms. Hoa said.
Many fire trucks and about 30 firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters broke the iron door and hosed down the fire to prevent it from spreading. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes, with no casualties but much property destroyed.
