Of the total of more than 4.6 million international arrivals to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2024, the number of arrivals by air accounted for 83.6%, by road accounted for 13.5% and by sea accounted for 2.9%.
The tourism industry welcoming a large number of international visitors in the first quarter of 2024 has caused revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first quarter of 2024 to reach an estimated VND 174,800 billion, and tourism to reach an estimated VND 14,100 billion, accounting for 0.9% of the total and increasing by 46.3% over the same period last year.

According to the National Tourism Administration, Asia is still the largest source of visitors to Vietnam, especially the Korean market, with more than 1.2 million visitors to Vietnam, equal to 150% compared to the same period last year and an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2019.
China ranked second with nearly 890,000 arrivals, 6.4 times higher than the same period in 2023. The remaining top 10 markets sending visitors to Vietnam in the first 3 months of the year included Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, the US and Australia.
In 2024, Vietnam tourism aims to welcome 18 million international visitors, 110 million domestic visitors, and total revenue from tourists reaching VND850,000 billion.
Explaining the reason for the strong growth in the number of international visitors to Vietnam, Director of the National Tourism Administration Nguyen Trung Khanh shared that the number of international visitors has recovered strongly thanks to the effectiveness of favorable visa policies and the tourism promotion stimulus program that has gradually become effective.
In the coming time, to continue attracting international tourists to choose Vietnam as a destination, the whole industry needs to do a good job of communication and promotion in the new situation, in which it is necessary to clearly identify the target market, increase direct access to customers to provide destination information.
Currently, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is researching and consulting the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to submit to competent authorities to amend regulations related to the activities of the Tourism Development Support Fund to improve the effectiveness of organizing promotional activities and supporting tourism development.
At the same time, it is necessary to promote socialization and increase resources to promote national and international promotion. In addition, tourism businesses need to strengthen links with other sectors such as agriculture, industry and trade to develop more products to increase spending and shopping of tourists.
