According to the assessment, the short circuit of a motorbike battery when the vehicle is not in use is rare. However, there have been a number of fires related to this cause, leaving very serious consequences for people and property.

One of the most serious fires involving a motorbike battery occurred at a mini apartment building in Khuong Dinh ward (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi).

Previously, on April 21, 2022, a serious fire also occurred in Dong Da district in Hanoi. The fire claimed the lives of 5 people. The cause of the fire also originated from an electrical short circuit in a scooter battery located on the first floor.

In Ho Chi Minh City, on March 23, 2018, in District 8, a major fire also occurred at the Carina apartment building, killing 13 people and injuring 28 others. Authorities determined that the fire originated from a short circuit in a motorbike battery.

According to fire prevention and fighting experts, incidents related to motorcycle battery explosions are rare, but not impossible. The main causes are short circuits between the positive and negative poles of the battery, overloaded electrical lines, and friction between non-metallic materials causing sparks.

How to prevent motorcycle battery short circuit?

Motorcycle battery short circuit leading to fire and explosion is a rare phenomenon, but it has happened and left very serious consequences. The risk of fire and explosion related to motorcycle battery short circuit can happen at any time, on any vehicle.

Therefore, motorbike users need to regularly maintain their motorbikes at reputable facilities to minimize this risk.

According to fire prevention experts, many motorbike users do not pay attention to the schedule for periodic vehicle inspection and maintenance, only taking their motorbikes for repair when they have problems.

According to recommendations from motorcycle manufacturers, the average life span of a motorcycle battery is about 1.5-2 years. Batteries used beyond this time have a high risk of explosion.

In addition, fire prevention experts also recommend not to modify the vehicle, install additional accessories, toys, etc. These products are often of unknown origin, do not guarantee quality and can affect the operation and safety of the vehicle, leading to the risk of fire.

Fire prevention experts also note that vehicle owners must be on guard against animals such as dogs, cats, or especially rats that can bite electrical wires. This is also one of the causes that can lead to damage and explosion of motorbike batteries.

Along with that, when storing motorbikes indoors, owners should not leave the motorbike too close to flammable or combustible objects to prevent possible risks.
