(Dan Tri) - "Is it really that hard to get a job?", a statement by an influential person on social media in China has caused controversy among the public.
Yang Yue (Chinese nationality), a famous person on social network Douyin, has angered netizens with his remarks belittling unemployed youth.
A famous young man on social media was "turned away" by his followers for mocking an unemployed young man (Photo: Douyin).
Accordingly, he posted a video online, expressing his opinion in a joking tone: "Is getting a job really that difficult?".
He then mocked the label of "fearless social justice warriors" of those born after 2000.
“Aren’t these people the generation that cleans up toxic workplace culture? They can’t even join the country’s workforce,” Yang said.
The video quickly garnered over 8 million views and hundreds of thousands of interactions. Many people expressed their opposition to Yang's controversial statement.
During a sensitive time, when China is experiencing a high youth unemployment rate (17.1%), many viewers of Generation Z (those born between 1997-2012) became even more outraged by Yang's comments.
They were offended when Yang said Generation Z was not trying to escape unemployment, when he had never applied for a job himself.
Soon after, more than 1 million accounts unfollowed Yang on social media. Although he apologized, many still did not forgive him.
Yang Yue reportedly started his social media influencer career as a student at Peking University. After receiving his master's degree in 2021, he became a full-time content creator.
Zhao Yue (24 years old), a journalism graduate, said Yang's assessment was completely wrong. According to him, today's youth are a generation that grew up in an extremely competitive educational environment. They are constantly pressured to always strive to succeed.
The Chinese government has made reducing youth unemployment an urgent national goal. However, the economic downturn, which has caused businesses to limit hiring of new graduates, remains a difficult problem.
