It is known that the Western guy who "stole the hearts" of netizens is Moritz, 28 years old, from Switzerland. Moritz came to Vietnam for the first time in 2023 and spent a month wandering around exploring the S-shaped country. The beauty of the landscape and people of Vietnam made the Swiss guy "fall in love". At the end of 2023, Moritz returned to Vietnam to participate in volunteer activities and fell in love with a beautiful Vietnamese girl named Duyen. Duyen is the owner of a banh xeo nem lui restaurant on Phan Dinh Phung Street. Up to now, Moritz has been in Hanoi for more than 3 months. His main job is a German teacher. After work, Moritz goes to the banh xeo restaurant on Phan Dinh Phung Street to help his girlfriend sell.

"Coming to Vietnam was a chance for me, especially when I met Duyen. She is the owner of the restaurant and also my girlfriend. She is a very good cook and also taught me how to prepare many Vietnamese dishes. When my girlfriend decided to open a restaurant, I immediately supported her," Moritz said. The Swiss guy shared that he was familiar with BBQ grilling when he was in Switzerland, so nem lui was not difficult for him. However, the experiences at the sidewalk banh xeo restaurant helped Moritz learn new skills, such as determining the grilling time, grilling fast or slow, feeling the doneness... "In the early days, I was quite surprised because I saw the diners at the restaurant talking and laughing very loudly, sometimes shouting. Later, I understood 'oh, everyone here is like that'. Although the work is quite hard, I feel happy because I get to meet and chat with everyone," Moritz shared.

Ms. Le Duyen (26 years old, from Nam Dinh) - the owner of the restaurant - shared that her foreign boyfriend not only helps her grill nem lui but also enthusiastically introduces the dish to customers in fluent Vietnamese. "Every day, around 6:30 p.m., after work, he comes to the restaurant to help me. Every time a customer comes in, he warmly welcomes them and passionately introduces the dish. Since having this special employee, my restaurant has become much more crowded, with both Vietnamese and foreign customers," Duyen said. Moritz's bright smile and friendliness make everyone feel comfortable and excited. Duyen's nem lui banh xeo restaurant, accordingly, is increasingly popular, thanks to the effective support of the Swiss guy. Every day, the restaurant sells 80-100 servings of banh xeo and about 300-400 nem lui. Many customers come to the restaurant because they are curious about the image of the lovely Western guy grilling nem lui on the street.
