Starting from his mother's complaints that the house quickly ran out of laundry detergent, Ngo Tran Bao Viet, a chemical engineering student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU, came up with the idea of researching household detergents.
Student Ngo Tran Bao Viet admits that he has had a "blood" for business since he was young. Viet has always dreamed of researching products and selling them himself.
Initially, Viet only intended to produce for family use, but after receiving support from many people, the student became "into business" and decided to start a business with this product line.
Viet recalls that at the end of 2023, each time a prototype was completed, his mother, aunt, and teacher were the first three people to experience the product. Viet took note of feedback and then gradually improved it until it was complete.
"It took me 2-3 months just to research purely on theory, then I started to try mixing. Unlike producing for family use, I was determined that every product brought to the market must meet the requirements. If the product did not meet the requirements, I would not think about selling it" - Viet expressed.
Ocean is the name of the cleaning product line researched by Viet.
Talking about marketing, Viet said that when he saw his aunt's family selling groceries, he quickly asked for a small display space. Viet's parents went to work and introduced the products to him. Near Viet's house, there was a boarding house with many workers. Viet poured the product into small bottles for everyone to try, and gradually the workers in the boarding house became loyal customers.
Viet said he matured a lot since starting his business, not afraid to communicate, not discriminating against customers. Since starting his business, his whole family has also become busier.
Viet applies the knowledge he learned in chemical engineering to his life and creates a source of income for himself.
When asked about his first "huge" order, Viet smiled and excitedly said: "It was an order for 50 cans of laundry detergent, delivered to Binh Dinh province. When I received the order, I was both happy and worried, because I alone could not complete it on time, so my parents had to help. Receiving positive feedback from customers, my whole family was very happy."
Viet said his price is cheaper than other laundry detergents because the production cost is cheap, Viet's father is a delivery man so he saves on this, there is no advertising cost, and all orders come from referrals from regular customers.
Up to now, Viet has researched and launched laundry detergent (2 scents) and dishwashing liquid. The price ranges from 80,000 VND - 90,000 VND / 3.8L bottle. In the near future, Viet will also make floor cleaner.
After half a year of starting the business, the number of orders delivered to the provinces is increasing, especially in the Western region.
Viet's father will take care of the delivery for his son.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan, Head of the Biofuel and Biomass Laboratory, University of Technology, commented that the products produced by Vietnam are not scientific breakthroughs, but they are the proud achievements of a third-year student. The efforts to research and start a business while still in school demonstrate the efforts and will of engineering students that if they study engineering, they must create practical products.
"Viet is a very energetic student. In addition to business, he also teaches and conducts other scientific research projects at school. After many times of "living in the lab", up to now, Viet's products have many innovations in formula, effective detergents that do not dry the skin, light scent, long lasting scent" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan assessed.
