On the occasion of World Patient Safety Day (September 17), the Medical Knowledge and Book Publishing Brand of Alpha Books (Medinsights) in collaboration with the Institute for Quality Assessment and Human Resources Development in Health (HARDI) launched the book series Lean Toolkit in Healthcare.

With concise content and high applicability, the book series provides streamlined tools suitable for medical facilities with limited resources to gradually improve the quality of health care services in Vietnam.

The healthcare sector of countries around the world in general and Vietnam in particular is always facing many challenges such as: hospital overload causing long waiting times for medical examination, high costs and being a burden for many patients; medical errors that can affect patients' health or non-standardized processes causing inconsistent services...

This always causes health care managers to have a headache in finding solutions to improve service quality, improve patient safety while ensuring revenue and expenditure, and meeting patients' ability to pay.

For 7 consecutive years, the author of the book series - Thomas Lindsay Jackson, and his colleagues at Rona Consulting Group in the US have published the book series Lean Healthcare Toolkit to help healthcare managers, hospital administrators, and medical staff find effective solutions to the above difficult problem.

With 5 books, the book series deals with specific tools and methods, including: Standard procedures (providing standards in practice, procedures, service quality, patient safety, employee policies... in both management and operational activities); Kaizen (enables continuous improvement to perfect the process); Clinical value stream mapping (identifies and eliminates non-value-adding activities, also known as waste); Error prevention (building a safe system, minimizing medical errors and risks); Just-in-time approach (helping to provide the quality service that patients demand)

In the United States, lean methods were first implemented on a large scale at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Washington in 2001 and a few years later at Park Nicollet Medical Center in Minnesota and Thedacare Medical Center in Wisconsin. The success of these implementations has been well documented.

The results from these organizations show that lean is an effective solution to help the healthcare industry solve many difficult problems. By eliminating non-value-added activities, minimizing waste and continuously improving. It also helps improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and ensure patient safety.

Today, more and more organizations around the world are adopting lean healthcare principles to improve patient safety and make healthcare more affordable.

Drawing on the practical experience and insights of recognized experts, the Lean Healthcare Toolkit is an indispensable resource for anyone who wants to improve the quality of healthcare services and build an effective healthcare system.
