(Dan Tri) - The Indonesian team disappointed when they were held to a 3-3 draw by Laos in the second match of Group B of the 2024 AFF Cup on the evening of December 12 (Vietnam time).

"It's okay, Indonesia. At least you have won the AFF Cup runner-up position 5 times, the most in this tournament. And you also qualified for the third qualifying round of the World Cup like the big brothers Thailand and Vietnam," Thai fan Krongkai Chaichot commented mockingly on the Asean Football website about the draw between Indonesia and Laos on the evening of December 12.
This is the first time in history that the Lao team has drawn and scored 3 goals against Indonesia. This defeat is considered a big shock for the team from the archipelago, as they entered the AFF Cup 2024 as a championship candidate. However, currently, coach Shin Tae Yong and his team are facing difficulties in their journey to the semi-finals.
Despite playing at home at Manahan Stadium, the Indonesian team still had difficulty against Laos's attacking style of play. In the 9th minute of the match, the Indonesian net shook after Panyavong's decisive shot from inside the penalty area.

Kadek Arel equalized 1-1 in the 12th minute but just a minute later, Phommathep helped Laos continue to lead 2-1. Ferarri equalized 2-2 for Indonesia in the 18th minute but they did not score another goal in the first half. In the second half, Indonesia played stalemate and they suffered a loss when star Marselino Ferdinan received a red card after a rough foul.
Indonesia surprisingly took a 3-2 lead after Ferarri's header in the 72nd minute, but Phanthavong immediately equalized for Laos with a close-range finish. The home team tried to attack despite being short-handed, but their declining physical strength prevented Indonesia from scoring and they had to share points after the second match of Group B.
"A great result for Laos. They had to fight with fatigue when playing away from home, as well as lower quality players, but it was not easy to score. Laos football has made history, but this is a real shock for Indonesia," commented Nicholas Leow from Singapore.

"Seriously, if Indonesia does not develop youth football and only relies on foreign players, Indonesian football will still be far behind Vietnam and Thailand in terms of domestic youth training. Seeing local Indonesian players playing on par with Laos is enough to understand," said Kagawa Ma.
"Congratulations to the Laos team, you have improved today and will be better tomorrow. You did well to force Indonesia to share points at home," said Khamdaeng Saengthanorm.
“Both Indonesia and Laos put in commendable performances in the match, and it was encouraging to witness the continued growth and skill displayed by each national team in the Southeast Asian region.
I express my admiration for both Indonesia and Laos, hoping they continue to persevere in their efforts," commented Sovanpanha Sy from Cambodia.
"Regardless of the result, we are still proud of our young players, at least they have experience in this tournament. We fought hard with 10 players, but Laos defended strongly enough. Thank you Laos for giving our young players valuable lessons," Aziza Casabella affirmed.
Holding Laos to a disappointing 3-3 draw, Indonesia only got 4 points after 2 matches and temporarily led Group B of the AFF Cup 2024. Coach Shin Tae Yong's team is under certain pressure in the away match at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) of the Vietnam team on December 15.
