Neuralink successfully implanted chip into human brain
On January 28, Elon Musk's neurotechnology startup Neuralink implanted a device into a human brain for the first time and the patient is "recovering well".
In a post on X on January 29, Elon Musk said his company had implanted a chip into a human brain and the patient was recovering well.
Neuralink is developing a brain implant that would help severely paralyzed patients use neural signals to control external technologies.
Neuralink will begin recruiting patients for human clinical trials in fall 2023 after receiving approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct the study in May 2023, according to a blog post.
Musk said Neuralink's first product is called Telepathy.
If the technology works as intended, patients with serious degenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) could one day be able to communicate or access social media by using their minds to move cursors and type.
Apple is the world's most loved company for 17 consecutive years
After surpassing the $3 trillion valuation mark by the end of 2023, Apple has just been named the world's most beloved company for the 17th consecutive year.

According to Fortune, Apple managed to secure the top spot in terms of social responsibility, financial soundness, innovation, and global competitiveness. However, interestingly, Apple only scored 8.19 overall, down from the 8.65 it scored in 2023.
Microsoft is in second place, Amazon has dropped to third place.
New record for data transmission distance via Wifi
Australian wireless technology company Morse Micro has set a new record for data transmission distance via Wifi.
Using the relatively new HaLow standard (802.11ah), engineers can transmit signals up to 2.9 km away.
The HaLow standard was introduced in 2016, but widespread deployment is just beginning. The technology is optimized for transmitting small amounts of data over very long distances, with low power consumption.
During testing, Morse Micro engineers achieved data transfer speeds ranging from 11 Mbps at 500m to 1 Mbps at a maximum distance of 2.9 km. This is enough to maintain a stable video connection over wifi between two points.
Dozens of Chinese companies added to US Department of Defense 'blacklist'
On January 31, the Pentagon listed more than a dozen Chinese technology companies, including memory chip maker Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC), as “military entities” that pose a national security risk to the United States.
According to the US Department of Defense, artificial intelligence companies Yitu Technology and Beijing Megvii, drone maker Chengdu JOUAV, lidar maker Hesai Technology, and technology company NetPosa are also entities operating in the US but have ties to the Chinese military.
They join Shenzhen-based consumer drone maker DJI Technology and China's top genetics company BGI on the so-called 1260H list - a collection of entities linked to Beijing's military industry.
The 1260H list is updated annually by the Department of Defense pursuant to the National Defense Authorization Act passed by the U.S. Congress in 2021.
Entities on the list are not outright banned, but they make companies ineligible for Pentagon contracts. They also have limited access to US capital when investing and doing business here.
