The Dien Bien Phu Victory marked a brilliant milestone in the history of the nation and the era, becoming a symbol of revolutionary heroism and Vietnamese strength.
70 years have passed, but the Dien Bien Phu Victory has left many valuable lessons not only in our nation's resistance war against the French, but also in the country's renovation today. These are lessons about the Party's skillful leadership, unique military art, lessons about promoting the people's hearts, the strength of national unity and skillful foreign policy.
In Dien Bien province, the bridge was held at the Victory Monument on D1 hill with a stage designed with 56 stone pillars symbolizing 56 days and nights of digging mountains and sleeping in tunnels. The program with many unique performances with heroic songs such as: Uncle is marching with us, Cheers to Dien Bien soldiers, Ho keo Phao... is a meeting with veterans who participated in the Dien Bien Phu battlefield in the past, so that historical witnesses can tell about unforgettable memories in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
In Hanoi, the bridge was held at the historic Ba Dinh Square, with performances recreating the lively atmosphere of Hanoi's resilience, fighting, and fighting in the midst of fire to protect Hanoi with images of the national defense troops returning to Hanoi to fight against the French colonialists.
In Thanh Hoa, the bridge was held at Lam Son Square, in addition to the grand scenes, the touching atmosphere vividly recreated the scene of the front line, the porters transporting food by bicycle, overcoming the rain of bombs and bullets to the battlefield, contributing to the victory of Dien Bien Phu, the audience also met the historical witness Mr. Tran Khoi, former Political Commissar of the 101st Portage Company of Thanh Hoa, recounting the days of "digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels, in the pouring rain, eating rice balls". At that time, he was a 28-year-old man who set out to answer the call of the Fatherland, leaving behind his young wife and two children at home, the eldest son was only 4 years old, the second daughter was just born about 2 months ago.
During the resistance war against the French colonialists, especially the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, the Party Committee, army and people of Thanh Hoa clearly demonstrated their important strategic rear role. Although the people's lives were still extremely difficult and deprived, with the spirit of "the whole country joining the battle", "Determined to die for the Fatherland", following the call of the Party and the Lien Viet Front, in 3 campaigns, the whole province mobilized 200,000 long-term and short-term laborers, more than 3,500 bicycles, 1,126 wooden boats of various types, 31 cars, 180 oxcarts, 42 pack horses, 3 elephants and many other means of transport, providing more than 4,500 tons of rice, 350 tons of food, 2,000 pigs, 350 buffaloes, cows and hundreds of tons of vegetables of all kinds. Thanh Hoa's rear mobilized the highest human and material resources, ensuring logistics for the victory of the campaign.
During the historic days of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, despite the rugged terrain and fierce enemy attacks, they could not stop groups of porters from the West of Thanh Hoa from crossing forests, mountains, and passes, secretly delivering goods to their destination safely. In the rain of bombs and bullets of those unforgettable days, contributing manpower and resources to the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Thanh Hoa province had many heroic examples, such as: Comrade Doi Sy Trau, from Quang Xuong district, continuously carrying a pair of 60kg bags, leading the charge to carry goods to serve the campaign; the bicycle porters Cao Van Ty and Trinh Ngoc, from Thanh Hoa town, achieved a record of carrying from 160kg to 195kg, then over 300kg per trip; Farmer Trinh Dinh Bam, from Dinh Lien commune, Yen Dinh district, with his passionate patriotism, did not hesitate to decide to dismantle the family altar to make a wheelbarrow to serve the transportation of goods...
During his second visit to Thanh Hoa in June 1957, President Ho Chi Minh praised "During the resistance war, the people of our province, all classes of people showed solidarity and participated in the resistance war. Now wherever the Vietnamese language goes, the Dien Bien Phu language goes there. Wherever the Dien Bien Phu language goes, the Thanh Hoa people also have a part of the honor."
In Kon Tum, the bridge was held at Kon Klor Communal House, a grand performance by the people with 140 hand-held torches, demonstrating the unity of the Party's will and the people's hearts in the resistance war, creating a space imbued with the epic of the Central Highlands.
The Ho Chi Minh City bridge was held at the Thu Ngu Flagpole Relic Site, and is a story about the Southern army and people sharing the fire with the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. Geographically, the South is the farthest from the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, so the direct contribution of human resources and materials may not be equal to other localities. However, at that time, based on the French colonialists' policy of dispersing forces on all fronts, the Southern people attacked on all three fronts: military, political and military affairs... contributing significantly to the overall victory.
