Luu Quang Vu and Ho Minh Tuong were both in class 10B at Dakrong Secondary and High School, located in Ta Rut Commune, Dakrong District, Quang Tri Province. The close friendship between Tuong and Vu left a beautiful image in the hearts of teachers, friends and many parents.

Luu Quang Vu was born into a family of two brothers. His mother was a merchant in the village while his father had no stable job. Unfortunately, he suffered from muscular dystrophy since he was 2 years old, which became more severe as time went on, leading to muscle atrophy. Vu has a younger brother in first grade who also has a similar leg deformity.

"When the weather suddenly changed, my limbs became numb and I couldn't walk. By the second semester of 8th grade, I was completely paralyzed," Vu said.

Meanwhile, Ho Minh Tuong was Vu's classmate since middle school. "We became close friends when we were in 7th grade. Studying together, seeing that my friend was paralyzed and couldn't run, jump, or play, I felt very sorry for him," Tuong said.

Tuong was big and had a stronger body than his peers. Seeing that he had such a disease, no one asked for help, Tuong volunteered to carry him to class every day.

Normally, Vu's father would drive him to school and then Tuong would pick him up and take him to class. Sunny days were fine, but rainy days were more difficult. However, rain or shine, Tuong would carry Vu to practical classes where the classrooms were elsewhere.

During recess, Tuong carried his friend on his back to play. When they were too tired, they both sat down to rest and looked at each other and smiled.

Vu, despite his unexpected illness, always has a smile on his face. When Vu's father is busy, Tuong rides his electric bike to pick him up from school, even though their routes are different.

"I don't want you to skip school, so I encourage you to volunteer to carry you," Tuong said shyly.

At the beginning of the 10th grade, Tuong registered for a different class from Vu. Seeing his friend feeling lonely, Tuong volunteered to change his class so that they would always be in the same class, side by side with Vu.

"I will continue to carry Vu and help him go to school as long as we are in school together," Tuong said. Meanwhile, Vu just smiled shyly: "I promise to study hard to repay your kindness."

Mr. Nguyen Khuong Chinh - Vice Principal of Dakrong Secondary and High School - commented that the pair of friends have a spirit of solidarity, helping each other overcome difficulties, and are an example for many to follow.

"Both of their families are poor and their income is unstable, but their love is very close," said teacher Chinh.

The school also always arranges the two students' classrooms on the first floor for their convenience. At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, the school mobilized 20 million VND to help the two students, each receiving 1 million VND/month.
