Graduated from the Faculty of Preschool Education, Saigon University, Mr. Duy has worked at the Kindergarten for 7 years. Mr. Duy brings love to children with the enthusiasm and dedication of a teacher who overcomes prejudice to pursue his passion.
PV: Can you share about your decision to choose preschool education? What made you decide to pursue a career that is mostly chosen by women?
Teacher Thai Hong Duy : Society's prejudice is that most of the preschool education sector or child care work is the image of teachers. When I chose to study preschool education, I myself was very hesitant and worried.
However, with the encouragement of my family, I boldly registered to study. When I entered the class, I was surprised because I was the only man. But with the determination to change careers and the guidance of the teachers at the University, and later the encouragement of the Board of Directors of the 19/5 City School, I have been attached to the profession for 7 years.
PV: Over the past 7 years, have you encountered any difficulties when starting this job?
Mr. Thai Hong Duy: The advantage is the love and support of colleagues. The difficulty comes from the prejudice and thinking of parents. At first, they did not think that there would be a teacher who would take care of and educate their children, not knowing if he would be as good as the teachers.
But time has proven it. In the first months of the school year, I tried to support, help the children study, organize their studies and help them have fun. After that, the parents also saw their children excited to go to class and gradually trusted me.
Teach your children to love them more and more. Children are very sincere, they say what they think.
If we come to our children with love, we will receive love from them.
PV : Preschool age is very special. How is the challenge of being a teacher different from that of a female teacher?
Teacher Thai Hong Duy: I always think of myself as playing the role of a father in the family. If at home there is a father and a mother, then in class there is a teacher. The relationship will be more complete. The children can interact with the teacher as they would at home with their mother. At school, they can interact with the teacher as they would at home with their father. There is care, comfort, and love.
But in it, there is also strong teaching from the teacher so that the children can fully see the affection in class as well as at home.
PV: So what is special about the way you handle situations for children?
Teacher Thai Hong Duy: Each child is different, there are 25 children in the class, with different personalities. For teachers, handling situations is quite gentle. As for a teacher with a masculine personality, sometimes he can be a bit hot-tempered. But when I chose this profession, my ethics as a teacher force me to handle every situation with patience and love.
There are students who, even after entering first grade, still tell their parents to send their regards to Mr. Duy. Or sometimes, when they have a good song, they ask their parents to send it to him. That makes me very touched.
PV: How did you lead the activities to enhance life skills for the children?
Teacher Thai Hong Duy : This age group loves to explore. If we only provide structured activities, it will not create excitement. But lessons that enhance experience and exploration will give children joy.
I myself also pay attention to the care and hygiene of the children. When I manage a class group, I always discuss that the teacher will take care of and clean the boys; and the girls will take care of and clean the girls.
If the teacher is not dedicated and ethical, parents will not feel secure and children will be afraid to come to class.
PV: What about singing, dancing, and joking... for the children?
Teacher Thai Hong Duy: Most preschool teachers have a sense of humor. If there is excitement and fun in the class, the children will be more interested. In addition, teachers must also be talented in singing, dancing...
Teachers, whether male or female, who choose preschool education, are all multi-talented! (laughs)
PV: According to you, what benefits will having more teachers in the preschool teaching staff bring to children?
Teacher Thai Hong Duy: If there is a teacher in the classroom, the children will also receive enough love like having a father and mother at home.
I personally hope that not only once or twice a year will there be one boy studying preschool education, but also many more boys to diversify the preschool education industry.
Let's get rid of the stereotype that preschool is just about singing, dancing, eating, sleeping and going home like a nursery school.
On the contrary, when children come to kindergarten, they can discover many things and learn many things. Teachers themselves are always curious and creative. And they will also do this job very well.
