Cat Ba: Cable car price reduced by 50% to "rescue" passengers from waiting for ferry

Cable car ticket prices to Cat Ba Island are hitting rock bottom, causing the number of tourists taking the cable car to increase dramatically, "rescuing" tourists from waiting hours for the ferry.

During peak season, traveling to Cat Ba Island makes many tourists feel frustrated because they have to wait too long for the ferry, especially in the hot weather.

However, from May 27 to August 31, Mat Troi Company Limited will reduce 50% of the cable car ticket price from Cat Hai to Cat Ba Island and vice versa. This will help tourists save a lot of time and travel costs. Mat Troi Company Limited shared that the cable car discount was part of the company's business plan this summer. However, the company has pushed it up earlier than the original plan, in order to support tourists to travel to Cat Ba Island more conveniently and safely.

Tourists travel by cable car with the world's tallest pillars, with the highest point reaching 214.8 m.

It is known that the new cable car ticket price to Cat Ba has been reduced to only 50,000 VND/one way, for all visitors. Children under 1 meter tall will be exempted from the cable car fare. For visitors carrying large luggage (60 cm x 30 cm long, 80 cm high or equivalent to 30 kg), an additional transportation fee equivalent to the cable car fare of 50,000 VND/way will be charged.

Traveling by the Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car, visitors will avoid the crowds and waiting for the ferry for about 3 - 4 hours. Above all, visitors choosing to use the cable car only take about 10 - 15 minutes to reach Cat Ba. After arriving at Phu Long station, visitors can continue traveling by shuttle vehicles at a price of 50,000 VND/trip or public transportation such as buses at a price of 13,000 VND/trip, taxis, other service vehicles to continue traveling to the center of Cat Ba town easily and conveniently.

After the news of the sharp reduction in cable car fares, many tourists have been attracted. Many people have “turned around” to choose the experience of traveling to the island by cable car to save time and money. In the first days of the discount program, the Cat Ba sea cable car route welcomed thousands of tourists every day. A sharp increase compared to the same period last year.

According to statistics from the investor Cat Ba Sun Company Limited, the cable car route welcomes more than 1,000 visitors per day. On May 31 alone, there were more than 4,300 visitors on the Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car route, an increase of 352% over the same period.

Individual or group travelers can also choose to travel by cable car. Each cabin can accommodate up to 30 people. Group travelers can also comfortably travel together without fear of getting lost.

Mr. Dang Thanh Tung (a tourist from Hai Phong) shared after experiencing the cable car to Cat Ba Island: “ Visitors arriving at the station can buy tickets to Cat Ba by buying tickets online, buying tickets directly at the counter, or buying automatic tickets at the station quickly. When sitting on the cable car, I can see the whole scenery of Hai Phong, Cat Ba archipelago from above and see the development of the port city over the years. Traveling by cable car helps us save a lot of time and travel costs, especially not having to wait for the ferry in the hot weather. It only takes us about 10 minutes to travel. Traveling by cable car also helps reduce the pressure on the Dong Bai – Cai Vieng ferry route during peak season. Furthermore, it helps to maintain the image of Cat Ba tourism in the eyes of domestic and foreign tourists as always fast, convenient and “breathable”.

Cat Ba Island has become an attractive tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists since 2017. This has also put pressure on the ferry routes and infrastructure here. Although it has moved to a new, more spacious ferry terminal and increased its fleet of 4 large ferries, 1 medium ferry, and 3 small ferries, on weekends or during peak tourist seasons, visitors will still have to endure long ferry queues.
