Xinhua News Agency reported on July 8 that Harbin City, the capital of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, has just been selected by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to host the 2025 Asian Winter Games.

The decision was made at the 42nd OCA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. This will be the second time Harbin has hosted the regional sporting event, after the first in 1996. Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee Yu Zaiqing affirmed that China believes Harbin will host a "successful and outstanding Asian Winter Games, contributing to the development of winter sports and the Olympic movement in China and the whole of Asia, and promoting solidarity, friendship and peace".
