Traveling to Tokyo through the experience of a Vietnamese living in Japan

Le Chieu Duc and Nakamura Mio are a Vietnamese-Japanese couple who often share interesting stories on the Duc Mio TikTok channel with 2 million followers.

“We are living in Japan, and have taken our wives to Vietnam many times, but we have never had a real trip to Tokyo. This year-end, we took advantage of the opportunity to go for 3 days and 2 nights, booked 2 luxury hotels in the city center, and conveniently shared with everyone some of the travel experiences of people living here in Japan,” Duc said.

Early in the morning, Duc and his wife rented a traditional Japanese Kinomo and experienced a rickshaw ride at Sensoji Temple, Asakusa. This is an area with a unique and distinctive culture of the Edo period 1500 years ago, visitors can immerse themselves in the ancient atmosphere and easily capture beautiful and unforgettable moments.

After that, Duc took his wife to Tsukiji fish market, one of the largest fish markets in the world. This is not only a place to buy fresh seafood but also a culinary paradise with dishes such as sushi, sashimi or other unique dishes. Strolling here is not only to enjoy the cuisine but also to feel the vibrant life of Tokyo people.

On the second day, the couple went to Tokyo Tower and then visited Tokyo Dome. Standing from Tokyo Tower, you can see the whole of Tokyo, the view is also extremely beautiful at night. Meanwhile, Tokyo Dome is a symbol of sports culture with intense baseball matches and concerts of the world's top artists.

On the last day of the trip, Duc and his wife visited the famous Shibuya shopping and walking street, a must-see destination when visiting Tokyo. With its bustling atmosphere and trendy shops, this place offers a vibrant and modern experience, ending the journey of exploring Tokyo perfectly.

At the end of the trip, Duc shared, “Actually, to truly experience the whole of Tokyo, 3 days and 2 nights is definitely never enough. But on this trip, our main goal was to “de-stress”, so a short journey combining ancient and modern, with light food and sightseeing like this is enough. It’s not just a trip, but mainly a way to recharge and spend quality time with loved ones.”

The secret to experiencing luxury on a budget

According to Duc, when it comes to traveling to Japan, Vietnamese tourists are often only interested in where they can go, but they accept to eat and sleep very frugally, staying in small hotels far from the center. However, with the Japanese Yen being cheap, tourists can have a complete quality trip without being too expensive.

With a budget of around 20 million VND, if you choose the right time, Vietnamese tourists can experience a 3-day, 2-night trip, including a round-trip airfare of around 10-12 million VND; an additional 2-3 million VND to visit some famous tourist attractions in Tokyo because most of them are free to enter; an additional 1-2 million VND for convenient public transportation and 3-5 million VND for quality food at small restaurants. In addition, if you know how to choose the right time for promotions, you can consider luxury accommodation for an additional cost of just a few million VND.

“Many people often think that hotels in central Tokyo, especially premium hotels, are expensive and only suitable for high-end tourism, so they will ignore them. In reality, that is not necessarily the case,” Duc said.

For example, on his recent trip, Duc chose two hotels from the famous Japanese Mitsui Group. This hotel chain is conveniently located near famous attractions such as Asakusa, Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Dome, Ginza, Shibuya, and Akihabra. Although in the high-end segment, these hotels often offer special deals and service packages, suitable for couples, families, or business travelers; sometimes the price is only 1-1.2 million VND/night.

Duc shared his secret, "The first night we chose Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza Tsukiji. This is a luxury hotel with high-class interiors, facilities and services. And although it is located in the heart of Tokyo's luxurious Ginza district, the rooms are very spacious, even with a washer and dryer in the room like renting a house. Very suitable for couples or families traveling for a long time.

On the second night, I decided to stay at Sequence Suidobashi, another convenient hotel near Tokyo Dome, also part of the Mitsui Group. The rooms at Sequence are designed more simply but still sophisticated and comfortable, suitable for those who often go to concerts. The hotel also has a very romantic bar space, suitable for you to relax and take virtual photos.

Looking back on the journey, Duc believes that in addition to the tourist destination, choosing the right place to stay also contributed greatly to the feeling of comfort and completeness of his trip.

“Tokyo, or Japan in general, is not only a place to visit but also a place to enjoy. With the current yen price, instead of trying to save money, I think it is a great opportunity to experience things that I previously thought were luxuries. Because the value received often far exceeds the amount of money spent,” Duc shared with those who are considering a trip to the land of cherry blossoms.
