Smartphone sales in China have grown more than 13%, but foreign brands — of which Apple is the largest — have grown nearly four times faster, according to Bloomberg.
The latest figures from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology show that foreign smartphones account for just over 5 million units of total smartphone sales in the country.
iPhone sales began to recover around March and jumped more than 50% in April. The growth was partly due to Apple and its Chinese retailers cutting prices since early 2024, in deals that ran through the key June 18 shopping festival.
Apple has suffered a double-digit decline in sales after losing market share to Huawei Technologies Co. The Chinese company is nearing the milestone of one billion consumer devices running its in-house operating system, showing that the U.S.-sanctioned company is competing strongly with Apple in the premium segment.
