In recent days in Hanoi, some scammers, impersonating electricity employees, used personal mobile phone numbers to call and ask people to pay their electricity bills by transferring the amount of electricity to their personal accounts. When customers refused, these subjects immediately became rude, used impolite words towards customers, and threatened to cut off their electricity.

According to Ms. Do Minh Trang (Diplomatic Area - Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi), her family completely makes electricity payment transactions online automatically, so her electricity bill is never overdue. However, recently, she has continuously received messages and calls from electricity employees informing her about unpaid electricity bills. The subjects continuously warn and make threatening statements that if payment is not made, the electricity will be cut off, affecting the family's daily life.

Ms. Trang said that because she suspected that the incident had happened repeatedly and was sure that she had paid the electricity bill, she contacted EVNHANOI's hotline to verify the incident and found out that her family had successfully paid the electricity bill.

EVNHANOI representative said: “ EVNHANOI affirms that it absolutely does not use personal accounts to collect electricity bills. At the same time, when communicating with customers, Electricity employees must comply with customer care procedures, absolutely do not have a rude attitude, and are not allowed to use impolite words when communicating with customers .”

Information to limit scam calls

EVNHANOI has put into use a call identification system to limit the situation of impersonating electricity employees to make fraudulent calls and exploit customers' personal information. The specific identification display for each telecommunications network is as follows: Viettel, Mobifone, Vinaphone will display the name "EVNHANOI"; Vietnammobile, Gtel will display the number "0963001288".

In order to prevent impersonation, fraud, and insulting customers that affect the reputation of the electricity industry, EVNHANOI respectfully requests electricity customers to heighten their vigilance, not to provide personal information, and not to pay electricity bills into unverified bank accounts. At the same time, it is recommended that when receiving a call, suspecting impersonation of an Electricity industry employee, electricity customers should immediately notify the EVNHANOI Customer Care Center at 19001288 for 24/7 advice and support.
