(CLO) An Israeli airstrike on November 15 flattened an entire building in a densely populated residential area in the Tayouneh area, a few kilometers from the center of Lebanon's capital Beirut.

The building was one of five destroyed in airstrikes on November 15. An AP photographer captured a series of images showing the moment an Israeli bomb approached and hit a multi-story apartment building in Beirut’s Tayouneh neighborhood.

Richard Weir, senior crisis, conflict, and weapons researcher at Human Rights Watch, examined close-up photos to determine what type of weapon was used.

"The bomb and components visible in the photo, including the wire harness, wire casing and tail section, are consistent with a 2,000-pound (907 kg) Mk-84 general-purpose bomb equipped with a Boeing common-strike tail kit," he said.

This week, Israel has stepped up its bombing. Israeli warplanes have struck Hezbollah ammunition depots, a headquarters and other infrastructure.

Lebanese state media reported that an Israeli airstrike killed five family members at a house in Ain Qana, southern Nabatiyeh province, including the parents and three children.

Three other Israeli airstrikes killed six people and wounded 32 in different areas of Tyre province on November 15, also in southern Lebanon, the report said.

The airstrikes on November 15 came as Lebanon's interim prime minister asked Iran to help secure a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The prime minister appeared to have urged Ali Larijani, a top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, to persuade the militant group to agree to a deal that would require it to withdraw from the Israel-Lebanon border.

On November 14, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said the prospect of a ceasefire with Lebanon this time is the most hopeful since the conflict began.
