Great national unity - a precious tradition raised to new heights

Throughout the long history of the nation, solidarity is a precious tradition, a core factor and value that contributes to the victory of resistance wars against foreign invaders.

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: “Our people have a passionate love for the country. That is our precious tradition. From the past to the present, every time the Fatherland is invaded, that spirit boils up, it forms an extremely strong and huge wave, it overcomes all dangers and difficulties, it drowns all traitors and invaders”. Not only that, from the tradition and historical practice of the nation, he concluded: “Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success”.

At the same time, President Ho Chi Minh called: "All descendants of the Dragon and Fairy/Quickly unite and stay together". Thoroughly imbued with Ho Chi Minh's thought, under the leadership of the Party, the great national unity bloc has been constantly consolidated, strengthened and promoted. Thanks to unity, we achieved the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945); followed by the "Earth-shaking" Dien Bien Phu victory and with a great victory in the spring of 1975, completely liberating the South, unifying the country. In particular, in the process of innovation, thanks to unity, we have achieved many achievements of historical significance, so that our country has the foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it has today.

As General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong always understands the importance of the great national unity bloc. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has spent a lot of time visiting and working with localities, agencies and units in many areas and regions. With a practical style, wherever he goes, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always takes time to visit and encourage the people, visit veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, families with meritorious services to the country, wounded and sick soldiers, the elderly, teenagers, children, ethnic minorities and religious people. With such close and familiar activities and gestures, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has become a symbol and a shining example of the great national unity bloc.

On the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam National United Front - Traditional Day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (November 18, 1930 - November 18, 2023); at the same time, contributing to thoroughly grasping and implementing the Resolution of the 8th Central Conference, Session XIII, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front chaired and coordinated with the Central Propaganda Department and the National Political Publishing House Truth to organize the launching ceremony of the book "Promoting the tradition of great national unity, building our country increasingly rich, civilized and happy" by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The book is of great value to all levels, sectors, localities, units, cadres, party members and the masses, compatriots of all ethnic groups, religions, overseas Vietnamese and international friends, helping them understand the contents of great national unity, the leadership role of the Party, the political core of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political and social organizations in the cause of great national unity and effectively practicing great national unity. With the publication of the book, the tradition of great national unity forged throughout history has been supplemented, developed and raised to a new level by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; it is a synthesis and condensation of the theoretical thinking, practical leadership and direction of the Party in promoting the strength of great national unity for the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Core values of national solidarity under the leadership of the Party

The articles and speeches of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the book always affirm the core values of great national unity: Unity on the foundation of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought, the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State; unity on the basis of respecting and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of the people; unity on the basis of constantly expanding the great unity bloc; calling for the joint efforts and unanimity of the entire people in promoting the strength of great national unity, building the country to be increasingly rich, civilized, prosperous and happy.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stated: Great national unity is the sum of solidarity relationships between classes, strata, ethnicities, religions, genders, economic sectors, regions, and between the people and the Party and the State. Great national unity is demonstrated in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society, national defense, security, and foreign affairs.

Speaking at the ceremony to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam National United Front - the traditional day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (November 18, 1930 - November 18, 2020), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized: “National great unity is a strategic policy, of vital significance, deciding the success or failure of the revolution, and is the red thread running through the revolutionary strategy of our Party. As a vivid symbol of the ideology of national unity, the Fatherland Front needs to mobilize and promote the role of solidarity among all classes, highlighting the role of outstanding individuals among compatriots, ethnic groups, religions, and overseas Vietnamese”. This shows that, both domestically and abroad, the spirit of national great unity is always considered by the General Secretary as a vital task.

Not only highlighting the great national solidarity through historical periods, especially in the period of innovation, industrialization, modernization and international integration, the articles and speeches of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong have summarized many extremely valuable lessons of the tradition of great national solidarity that need to be promoted in the new revolutionary period; at the same time, proposing orientations, guiding viewpoints as well as solutions to promote the strength of great national solidarity, emphasizing the need to promote the role of all classes of people, localities, agencies and units to contribute more to the innovation process; strengthening education and propaganda to raise awareness of cadres, party members and people about the tradition of great national solidarity; continuing to innovate the content and methods of operation of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, promoting the role of a bridge between the Party, the State and the people; creating a favorable environment for the people to promote their mastery, participate in building and defending the Fatherland; Resolutely fight and prevent all plots and actions to divide and sabotage the great national unity bloc.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong especially emphasized: The decisive factor for the strength of our nation is community cohesion, "comradely love, compatriotic affection"... Those core values are not only the great contribution of the General Secretary to building the great national unity bloc in the new period but also the message, the important orientations for our entire Party, army and people to continue to join hands, unite, tighten solidarity together to strive to build a prosperous and happy country.

Spreading the tradition of great national unity in the new era

Immediately after its publication, the book "Promoting the tradition of great national solidarity, building our country to be increasingly prosperous, civilized and happy" by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has caused a great resonance. Because the contents mentioned, the issues summarized by the General Secretary in the book are not only meaningful for propaganda and education work but also a handbook with profound theoretical and practical values on promoting the tradition of great national solidarity in the new period. Thereby, helping Party committees, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels, cadres and party members in the political system to study and apply in practice; is an important political basis for thoroughly grasping and building an action program to implement the Resolution of the 8th Central Conference, Session XIII on "Continuing to promote the tradition of great national solidarity, building our country to be increasingly prosperous, civilized and happy". Furthermore, the book also provides solid scientific arguments and bases to refute the distorted arguments of hostile forces aimed at dividing the great national unity bloc, thereby protecting the good values and traditions of the nation as well as the correct policies of the Party.

The special point in the General Secretary's book is that each article and speech is always a reminder and encouragement for all cadres and party members, especially cadres in the Front system and socio-political organizations, to always respect the people, learn from the people, be close to the people, understand the people, and especially listen to and convey the legitimate thoughts and aspirations of the people to the Party and the State.

Only then can the strength of national unity be truly promoted, creating a combined strength to successfully carry out all assigned tasks, first of all to achieve the important goal in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress: “By 2025, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and national reunification: To be a developing country with modern industry, surpassing the low middle income level. By 2030, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party: To be a developing country with modern industry, high middle income. By 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam: To become a developed country with high income”.
