On January 21, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his intention to soon visit the capital Pyongyang.

KCNA quoted an official source as saying that President Putin thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for the invitation when he met with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, who visited Russia last week.
Also according to KCNA , Russia thanked North Korea for Pyongyang's support and solidarity in the conflict in Ukraine, and both sides expressed deep concern over the actions of the US and its allies against the Northeast Asian country.
The two countries also agreed to cooperate on regional issues.
The Korean Central News Agency stressed that cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow will be in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.
Previously, in October 2023, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Pyongyang on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and North Korea.
According to Russia's TASS news agency, Mr. Lavrov affirmed that the relationship between the two countries has reached a new strategic level in quality after the historic summit between President Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the Vostochny Cosmodrome on September 13, 2023.
Russia's top diplomat stressed that Moscow fully supports Pyongyang's policy and determination to protect its independence and the rights of its people to decide their own destiny and choose their own development path.
