'The movies Lat mat 7, Mai, The price of happiness all talk about real situations in family life today.

It is the conflict between generations of parents, husband and wife, children... It is difficult for them to connect and sympathize with each other.

This is the opinion of Dr. Bui Tran Phuong, the program speaker in the event discussing the relationship between family members in recent Vietnamese films such as: Lat mat 7, Cai gia cua hanh phuc, Mai, taking place at the Saturday Coffee Cultural Salon on the morning of June 1.

The talk is about research and opinions of Ms. Phuong and the audience about the connections between characters and families in the above films.

The suffering women

Ms. Bui Tran Phuong believes that all three films Lat mat 7, Mai, and The price of happiness are popular works, attracting audiences of all ages because they appeal to viewers' emotions, with a heavy emphasis on emotion and a light emphasis on reason.

In all three films, we also encounter women who have suffered and experienced tragedy in their family lives.

Although the ways of expression are different, according to Ms. Phuong, this theme has become an eternal subject of literature and art from the past to the present.

"Viewers love to see female protagonists suffer and admire and love them for that suffering.

It can be called being immersed in sorrow. At this time, tragedies for women are normal, a part of life" - Ms. Phuong expressed her opinion.

Although they may be betrayed, disadvantaged, and somewhat weak, these women have a lot of power.

They have a very strong impact on family and social life. They can make people feel cared for and loved, but can also make people miserable and tormented.

The ending of the film Mai surprised many viewers. For Ms. Phuong, it was an interesting ending because it was a realistic acknowledgement of the suffering and misfortune of the female protagonist.

In a survey of Vietnamese love stories conducted by Ms. Phuong, the majority of works have happy endings. Only about 10% of works do not have happy endings.

"These works do not have a happy ending when the villain's insult to the protagonist is too serious to be forgiven. It is a protest, a true assessment of evil. No matter how generous and tolerant you are, you cannot forgive" - Ms. Phuong analyzed.

Unlike the ending of the movie Mai , The Price of Happiness has an ending that makes her "a little creepy". The movie ends with the image of a happy family meal, with the mother's regret for having caused many plots to take revenge on her cheating husband.

"The screenwriter shows us the reunion of a family after all that happened and that is happiness. For me, this is "horrifying" because the film trivializes the violence and blatant deception within family members.

So how is the price of happiness understood now?" - Dr. Bui Tran Phuong said.

Do parents need to receive compensation from their children?

The film Lat mat 7 delves into the relationship between mother and children in the family. From here, many viewers also raise questions about how children take care of their parents nowadays.

Some viewers think that each story will be its own story. When parents get old, they don't need to expect their children to come back to take care of them.

From the perspective of a middle-aged audience, she said the mother's situation in the movie Lat mat 7 is very similar to her family's.

A mother has many children, when the children grow up and have their own families, the mother chooses to live alone.

The audience member said: "An elderly person over 70 years old also wants to not bother their children, but when their eyesight becomes dim and illness begins to strike, they really need the support and observation of their children.

But now the children also have their own families and busy jobs so they cannot be with their parents all the time.

In developed countries, it is normal for the elderly to go to nursing homes, have nurses to take care of them, and have companionship. But in Vietnam, there are still prejudices. This creates a vicious circle of deadlock."

Ms. Bui Tran Phuong agrees with the above viewpoint. She believes that social pressure is still great and weighs heavily on the shoulders of Vietnamese children. From there, we need to review the autonomy and responsibility of parents towards themselves and their children.

"Young people rely on their fathers, old people rely on their children. But what kind of reliance is legitimate and what kind of reliance will not be effective for both sides is something worth thinking about.

And with the development and change of society, it is impossible to insist on maintaining the Confucian family tradition: Three generations under one roof, four generations under one roof like in the past" - Ms. Phuong expressed her opinion.
