Candidates taking IELTS on computer will receive results within 2 days of completing the test.
On the morning of August 1, an IDP representative confirmed to Thanh Nien that most computer-delivered IELTS test results in Vietnam will be available within about 2 days. This is "significantly faster" than the previous 3-5 days, a British Council representative also told Thanh Nien. Both affirmed that the shortened time to return IELTS test results will take effect immediately to help candidates pursue their educational and settlement goals.
Raghav Sabharwal, Director of IELTS, Southeast Asia at IDP, said that shortening the time to receive IELTS test results will help candidates achieve their goals on time. "IELTS test results play a very important role for those planning to study abroad, apply for visas, find job opportunities or settle abroad. That is why we constantly strive to check answers quickly, honestly and objectively," said Raghav.
Mr. Raghav also emphasized that shortening the scoring time will not affect the quality of the assessment. "Although we have improved to shorten the time to announce the results, we still believe that direct communication with experts is the only way to truly reflect the English proficiency of the candidates. Therefore, the process of assessing the candidates' English skills is always done directly, ensuring the results are absolutely accurate and objective," he said.
Mr. Steve Adams, Director of International Examinations in Southeast Asia of the British Council, also noted that despite the shortened time for results, the quality of the exam is always guaranteed. "With this latest improvement, we aim to make the IELTS test experience more upgraded, smoother, more efficient and more reflective of the actual English ability of the candidates," Mr. Adams shared.

The shortened IELTS test result return time continues a series of moves by the exam to best support candidates. Previously, IDP and the British Council launched the One Skill Retake feature in early April, allowing candidates to retake any IELTS skill instead of having to retake the entire test. Candidates who choose to retake a skill will receive a new score report including the updated score along with the scores of the remaining 3 skills in the first test.
Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, despite being affected by the postponement of the exam in November 2022, forcing many candidates to seek other options or go abroad to take the exam, IDP and the British Council in Vietnam still issued 124,567 IELTS certificates in 2022. Of which, more candidates took the exam at IDP, as this unit issued 7,739 more IELTS certificates than the British Council.
Currently, IELTS test results are accepted by more than 100 higher education institutions in Vietnam to convert to English scores for admission purposes. The Ministry of Education and Training also allows candidates with IELTS scores of 4.0 or higher to be exempted from the high school graduation exam in foreign languages. And according to statistics from IELTS, the average test score of Vietnamese people in 2022 is 6.2, ranking 23rd in the world.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an international English language testing system widely recognized by thousands of universities, governments and businesses worldwide. The exam was launched in 1989 and is currently jointly owned by IDP, the British Council and Cambridge Assessment English and Press (UK).
