Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has officially announced a scholarship program to support and extend tuition payment deadlines to support students in the northern provinces affected by storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) and the flooding caused by the storm.

Accordingly, the school has awarded 100 scholarships, each worth 10 million VND, to disadvantaged students with permanent residence in 26 northern localities directly affected by the storm. Specifically, students from the following localities: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Son La, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Hanoi , Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thai Binh, Vinh Phuc and Thanh Hoa.

Students considered for scholarships must have extremely difficult family circumstances due to the impact of storms and floods; have not received scholarships of equivalent value or scholarships to support storms, floods, and natural disasters from the school; and have not been disciplined at the level of reprimand or higher during the semester in which the scholarship is considered.]

Universities call for support for Northern compatriots after typhoon Yagi

In addition, to support all students and families in the 26 provinces and cities above to reduce financial pressure during the current difficult time, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics also extended the tuition payment deadline for the first semester of 2025 to January 15, 2025.

Similarly, information from the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also showed that as of September 13, the school had 12 families of students studying at the school that were heavily affected by storm No. 3.

Therefore, in order to share the difficulties and provide timely support for families to overcome the consequences and students to study with peace of mind, the school has allocated 46 million VND from corporate sponsorship to support 12 students. Of which, 7 students received 2 million VND/student, 3 students received 4 million VND/student and 2 students received 10 million VND/student. Currently, the school continues to survey information about students, staff, civil servants and workers of the school affected by storm No. 3 until September 18 to provide timely support.

Meanwhile, some other universities in Ho Chi Minh City conducted surveys to quickly collect information from students affected by storms and floods in order to have direct support plans.

Professor Nguyen Minh Ha, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, said that the school is conducting statistics on the number of students in the flood-affected areas. Based on the actual number of students studying at the affected school, the school will provide scholarships worth an estimated VND3 million each.

Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade also officially announced the collection of information on the situation of students whose families and relatives were affected or suffered damage due to storms and floods.

This announcement reads: "In recent days, storm No. 3 (typhoon Yagi) with its complicated developments has caused serious damage to people and property. Flash floods, landslides, inundation... may continue and cause difficulties for affected areas, especially the northern provinces and cities". Accordingly, the school has conducted a quick survey of the situation of students whose families and relatives were affected or suffered damage due to typhoon Yagi.

Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of this school, said that after the survey period ends, based on the actual results, the school will have a policy to support students in cases where their families and relatives have suffered serious damage due to storms and floods, affecting their economy and life.
