Leading Indian oil, gas and technology corporations want to invest in Vietnam

On the afternoon of July 31, in the capital New Delhi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received leaders of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation of India, representatives of India's largest crude oil and natural gas corporation, and leaders of the HCL Technology Corporation.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Chairman of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC - under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of India), informed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh about industrial corridors and their role in the socio-economic development, industrialization and modernization of India.

This is India's pioneering initiative to develop new industrial cities, smart cities, integrating next-generation technology, especially the semiconductor industry, revolutionizing manufacturing and industry to consolidate India's position in the global value chain, making the country a global manufacturing hub, a manufacturing powerhouse. India aims to develop a digital economy worth 1,000 billion USD by 2026, Dholera in Gujarat state is India's first semiconductor city... The Prime Minister, together with leaders of ministries, sectors and NICDC leaders, discussed notable experiences and policies, especially the planning of development space for industries and fields. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the operational model, scale, vision and role of NICDC in the socio-economic development, modernization and industrialization of India in recent times, especially in developing strategic infrastructure, creating new development space and new values. Considering this a good model with many experiences that Vietnam can study and refer to, the Prime Minister suggested that Vietnamese ministries, agencies and localities closely coordinate with the Indian Ministry of Industry and Trade and NICDC, and possibly set up a working group to cooperate, study and exchange experiences in the coming time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman of ONGC Videsh Ltd. - a subsidiary of ONGC, India's largest crude oil and natural gas corporation, highly appreciated the opportunity to cooperate with Vietnam on the basis of the good comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries as well as Vietnam's great potential in the natural gas sector. The Prime Minister emphasized that oil and gas exploration, exploitation and processing is an important field for Vietnam, energy cooperation is also very important in the relationship between the two countries; highly appreciated the cooperation and investment activities of the corporation in Vietnam. The Prime Minister suggested that ONGC Videsh continue to promote investment and cooperation with a number of potential and capable partners in Vietnam, especially the National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) to review and continue to do well the existing projects, deploy new projects in oil and gas exploration, exploitation and processing to ensure high efficiency, both in the short and long term; while promoting cooperation in other energy sectors.

On the same afternoon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Shikhar Malhotra, Director of HCL Group, operating in the field of information technology. HCL has invested about 20 million USD to establish representative offices in Hanoi in 2020 and Ho Chi Minh City in 2021. The company's revenue in Vietnam in 2023 reached 16.5 million USD, creating more than 1,000 jobs. The Prime Minister highly appreciated HCL's activities in technology development and innovation. At the same time, he asked the group to promote cooperation and support in research and development of high-tech products and services, development of information technology infrastructure, technology transfer, human resource training, and placing orders with Vietnamese partners, including Viettel. Believing that the two countries have many similarities in this field, HCL leaders said the group considers Vietnam a strategic investment destination and is committed to promoting cooperation in the areas mentioned by the Prime Minister.
