The kickboxing event is held at The Grand Ho Tram Strip resort (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), promising to attract a large audience.
"Competing in a professional format and on a highly entertaining stage with a modern sound and lighting system, we were a bit nervous. And we had to try even harder," SEA Games 31 champion Nguyen Quang Huy shared.
Practicing hard, Trieu Thi Phuong Thuy hopes to get good results at the event.
Three fighters are ready
To prepare for the important matches of this event, the coaching staff and Vietnamese boxers searched for information about their opponents, watched their fights on YouTube, and analyzed their strengths and weaknesses, from which they came up with appropriate strategies.
To help the fighters get used to the rules of professional competition, the organizers also arrange to teach the rules of competition to the athletes and the athletes will also practice getting used to the arena to avoid feeling overwhelmed when competing officially.
On the evening of April 13, MAXFC 26 will have 8 pairs of matches with 16 fighters from countries and territories famous for martial arts such as Japan, China, Korea, Australia, Taiwan and Vietnam. In particular, Vietnam will have 3 SEA Games champions participating in the competition.
The only women's match at the event will be the appearance of 7-time national champion Trieu Thi Phuong Thuy. This Dao ethnic girl also just won a gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games in the Khmer kun category. At MAXFC 26, Phuong Thuy's opponent in the women's 52 kg weight class will be Choi Eun-ji. The Korean boxer has 16 professional fights, including 7 wins and has won a belt at this tournament, so it will certainly be a big challenge for Phuong Thuy.
“The coaches and I have also carefully studied our opponents through information and images on social networks. My opponent is physically large, but that will not discourage me. I will compete with the highest determination to demonstrate the bravery and spirit of the Vietnamese people,” the Vietnamese athlete affirmed.
Meanwhile, the reigning SEA Games 32 champion Nguyen Xuan Phuong will face Kwon Gi-seop (Korea) in the 64 kg weight class. This is also a highly anticipated match as Xuan Phuong has won the national championship for many years and Kwon Gi-seop has had 16 victories after only 20 professional matches.
“The Korean boxer, 1.80 m tall, has a physical advantage, being 5 cm taller than me. I consider this a valuable opportunity to learn and compete with opponents from professional kickboxing backgrounds and will try my best,” said SEA Games 32 champion Nguyen Xuan Phuong.
SEA Games 31 champion Nguyen Quang Huy will also face his opponent in the 60 kg weight class, Park Jae-won, a Korean boxer with 8 wins after 12 professional matches.
“This is an opponent I have never met before, but the coaching staff and I have also sought information and analyzed the opponent. I have also prepared carefully for this important match. This is also a valuable opportunity for us to prepare for international tournaments, first of all the Asian Championship in July and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, held in Thailand in November,” Quang Huy said.
MAXFC 26 is organized by the Vietnam Kickboxing Federation in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and Cocky Buffalo - a martial arts training company. Max Fighting Championship is a series of prestigious and reputable kickboxing events in Korea, considered one of the cradles that have produced many famous martial artists in Korea as well as the world. For the first time in Vietnam, this event promises to be a great opportunity for domestic martial artists to compete and gain experience against tough opponents.
