Mai Hoa, famous for the soundtrack of the movie "Land and People", said that when she was young, she took on many shows because she wanted a rich life, which affected her health.
The 49-year-old singer was awarded the title of People's Artist on March 6. On this occasion, she talked about her career views, lifestyle, and the joy of being a mother for the third time.
- Your feelings when being honored by the State after nearly 30 years in the profession?
- When doing art, everyone aims for a certain title. On my fanpage, I read some comments wondering who Mai Hoa is, or seeing my picture, I am so young but already a People's Artist. But right after that, someone else will answer, asking what songs I have, what achievements I have. Some young people even said they have listened to my music since primary school. That is the joy, motivation and value that I aim for when doing this job.
I work in cycles, usually 5 New year return to the music industry once. Not because I don't have enough conditions but I plan to "come back as scheduled".
I think fast or slow is not the problem, what matters is whether you can keep your brand in the hearts of your listeners or not. Artists who are not confident will find it difficult to bring quality products to the public. I read the law of attraction and understand that if I cannot assert myself, no one else can.
- How do you see your artistic career?
Every day, I always spend time sitting quietly, observing my breathing. This is not only relaxing but also good for my career, because singers need good breathing. In addition, I read books to expand my brain, improve my speaking skills or know how to perceive and handle problems in life. I also practice yoga, go to the gym, take care of plants and flowers, and spend time with my children.
- When did you choose this lifestyle?
- When I was young, I was greedy for money and wanted to be rich, to be able to help my family. From the first prize of the Hanoi Television Singing Contest in 1996, I had many shows but due to overwork, I was sick all the time, the longest period was half a month. At that time, I had a singing schedule almost every day, while I was quite a perfectionist, I had to be meticulous in everything I did, so I was quite stressed. I realized that I needed to change, I had to love myself first to be able to contribute to the audience.
I accept less shows, accept less money to stay healthy. I think there are many people out there who are richer, standing at higher heights, why do I keep chasing material values. Therefore, I choose to go step by step, from work to life. Now I am content because I have what I want, I don't feel inferior to anyone.
- Getting married at the age of 23, how did your life change then?
- I believe that marriage is fate, and so is having children. I even tried everything to have my first daughter, even though the doctor warned me that there was a 90% chance I would not be able to keep the pregnancy. I read the sutras every day and asked the temple for blessings.
When I got married and became a mother, I focused on accompanying my children during their childhood. I remember when my first daughter was less than a month and a half old, I went back to study vocal music at the Military College of Culture and Arts. Then I got caught up in work, from singing to participating in performances, and by the end of the day when I got home, I had no energy left to play with my children. Seeing that this was not enough, when my child was three years old, I decided to live more for my family.
- How do you educate your two daughters?
- I used to use corporal punishment to discipline my older child, but after beating him, I cried because I felt sorry for him. Later, I realized that I had failed when using this method, and realized that I would create a big distance between me and my child, so I made adjustments.
Perhaps the eldest daughter, 26 years old, like a copy of me in both appearance and personality. I think I have sown good karma for my child when at the age of 12, he came into contact with Buddhism himself, and when he grew up, he knew how to turn to his roots. The second child, 17 years old, has stronger personality. I let my child do whatever he wants, as long as it is not too far. I also took a numerology course to understand him better, wanting to be the person he can share all his stories with. Now that I have a baby boy, I often joke that old age is not peaceful (laughs).
- Welcoming your third child at the age of forty, how has your lifestyle changed?
- Almost a year since the birth of my son, my life has been My life is full of happiness. I am grateful that at this age I have the chance to welcome a baby. Perhaps the child feels that his mother is old, so he is very obedient and understanding. I have a babysitter to support me, my family helps me, and I know how to organize my work so I still have enough time for myself.
My eldest child is in the US so I often turn on the camera to monitor him or call him to talk. My second child is not used to his presence yet but he is gradually developing feelings for him which makes me very happy. I said that having a third child is for the sake of my children, I want them to be together in large numbers in the future.
Becoming a mother again, I have postponed my product launch plan compared to the 5-year cycle. This fall, I plan to release a vinyl album of eight songs with my own characteristics, six years after the music video for the movie Land and People , the CD duo Golden Autumn , and The Days We're Together.
