On June 17, news from the Office of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province said that the People's Committee of this province has just proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development advise competent authorities to support nearly 750 billion VND in funding to invest in Song Doc fishing port at a new location.
Ca Mau province proposed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to consider consulting competent authorities to support nearly 750 billion VND in funding to invest in Song Doc fishing port at a new location.
According to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, the existing Song Doc fishing port is located on the northern bank of the Doc River, and its area and capacity can no longer meet the needs of fishing vessels here, but there is no more area to expand. Therefore, the province has planned to expand the Song Doc port at a new location on the southern bank of the Doc River and proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development advise competent authorities to consider supporting the province.
In 2015, the Prime Minister approved the planning of the fishing port system and storm shelters for fishing vessels until 2020, with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, Ca Mau has 8 anchorages and 2 fishing ports.
Currently, the province has only built 4 anchorage areas for about 3,300 ships, 2 fishing wharves and 3 fishing ports, with the largest exploitation capacity for 120 ships with a capacity of 600CV or less passing through the port/day, the total output of aquatic products passing through the port annually is about 120,000 -140,000 tons.
The People's Committee of Ca Mau province stated that the above capacity does not meet the need for docking and anchoring to avoid storms for fishing boats operating in Ca Mau waters.
