Early season anchovies are used by many people, the selling price is high, so fishermen in Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh) are very excited and actively go to sea to exploit.
Every day at around 8-12 o’clock, the coastal area of Nghi Xuan district becomes bustling with dozens of fishing boats lining up to dock. Fresh batches of anchovies are quickly transported ashore by fishermen, ready to be sold to traders.
Fisherman Trinh Van Hien in Yen Ngu village, Xuan Yen commune shared: This is the season of anchovy, the weather is favorable so the catch is good, the selling price is high. In just the last 2 days, my boat caught nearly 300 kg of anchovy, earning more than 4 million VND.
To catch anchovies, fishermen go out to sea at 4am, when the sea is calm; use nets from 17-19mm, fishing 1-2 nautical miles from shore.
" Because I fish close to shore, I go on two trips a day, and on average I catch 10kg of anchovies, selling them for 150-160 thousand VND/kg. After deducting expenses, I earn nearly 1 million VND, " fisherman Nguyen Xuan Phong in Duong Phong village, Xuan Hai commune said excitedly.
According to the fishermen here, this year's anchovy fish appeared later than last year because of the leap month of February. For more than a week now, the sea has been calm, so there are many anchovy fish, favorable for fishing boats to go out to sea to catch fish.
Traders are waiting on shore to buy anchovies.
Fish from the sea is fresh and delicious, so even though it is more expensive, it still "attracts" customers.
It is known that the anchovy season starts from the beginning of the 9th lunar month of this year to the end of January next year. At the beginning of the season, each boat catches an average of 6-7 kg of fish per trip. Some boats are lucky enough to earn 1.5 - 2 yen, "pocketing" around 2 million VND after just a few hours at sea.
In recent years, people have enjoyed dishes made from anchovies. Therefore, this sea fish has become a specialty sought after by restaurant and eatery owners.

During the anchovy season, people in the coastal areas of Nghi Xuan actively change their fishing profession. Increasing seasonal fishing, especially for fish with high economic value, has contributed to stabilizing the socio-economy and increasing income for fishermen.
