Right at the beginning of the second semester, Ms. Doan Thi Trang - homeroom teacher of class 7D at Tho Xuan Secondary School (Dan Phuong, Hanoi) came up with the idea for the year-end parent meeting. This young teacher spent 4 months preparing.
4 months to have 2 hours of "love connection"
"I need to save photos of students through different periods, learning movements, school movements in semester II, and also combine photos and videos from semester 1...", Ms. Trang shared.
Then, she compiled and created 2 videos of students' learning activities and "Looking back on a journey".

Before the meeting, Ms. Trang printed out the form: "Letter to parents" for students to write their heartfelt letters. At the same time, she printed out the form: "A few words to my beloved child" for parents to write responses during the meeting.
Ms. Trang also prints out the student report cards with detailed comments. According to Ms. Trang, this section is very important because parents will read everything related to their children, so this will be a source of information for them to express their thoughts and feelings in a letter to their children.
About a week before the meeting, she assigned the students to practice hosting the program, singing in groups, singing solos... Other steps such as preparing PowerPoint files, decorating the board, printing name tags, preparing drinks... were also done by her and the students together.
4 things not planned
Entering the meeting on the morning of May 20, at first, Ms. Trang let the students completely control the stage.
The students hosted the program themselves, the choir performed the song "Press the memory button, release the dream", then the whole class read the class rhyme.
Next is the game "Who are you?". In this game, parents participate in "recognizing" their children through the given silhouette. Whether the answer is right or wrong, they will receive a "gift" of their child's report card and "Letter to parents".
During the year-end parent meeting, parents of class 7D participated in the game "Who are you?".
After the teacher reported the school's 2022-2023 school year summary, 3 students reported on the class's study order and other movements... This part of the program ended with the song "Mother's Dream"...
Ms. Trang emotionally recounted that there were things she did not expect that happened during and after this meeting: "The first unexpected thing was that right when the male choir performed the song 'Press the button to remember, release the dream', two parents were in tears. When the song 'Mother's dream' was sung by the whole class, many parents could not hold back their emotions, tears fell... This was the second thing I did not expect."

After the students' performance, Ms. Trang summarized the learning results and commended the students with high achievements in the class.
Next, she invited parents to follow their children's growth through the video "Looking back on a journey" and participate in the activity "Connecting love".
When participating in the game "Who are you?", some parents quickly recognize their children through their silhouettes, but there are also parents who have not been able to do that.
So is it because of the many worries, the hard work, the hardships of making a living, because we are still busy worrying about food and money that sometimes we are not really close to our children to observe them carefully and thoroughly, or do not understand their thoughts, desires, the things they want to say but cannot say?
"So, in this meeting, I play the role of a carrier, sending to parents letters that the children have gathered all their courage to write expressing their thoughts and wishes with the hope that parents will read and understand," said Ms. Trang.

Then Ms. Trang invited them to write letters to express their feelings, thoughts or "explain" to their children. The teacher continued to be the "transporter" of those things to the students...
Still very excited, Ms. Trang said that after the meeting, some parents stayed to share their feelings directly. There were things they had never been able to say to their children, but today they had the opportunity...
"There were parents who couldn't attend the meeting, but after seeing me post photos and videos of the meeting to the class group, they called to ask, expressing regret for not attending. They promised that they would arrange their work to attend the next meetings fully.
That was the third thing I didn't anticipate. As for the fourth thing I didn't anticipate, through my children's letters and their parents' thoughts, I realized that many students understood the situation, many parents had wishes and thoughts that were difficult to talk about, and needed to continue to discuss. That was what inspired my emotions and will be part of the content of future meetings that I will conduct," Ms. Trang expressed.
