Musician Bui Cong Nam said he was once offered sex for money by men, but he firmly refused because he wanted to live a clean life and devote himself to his passion.

He participated in the music show. Brother overcame thousands of obstacles along with 32 colleagues, attracted attention after two episodes aired. Bui Cong Nam is active as a musician, creating hits for singers such as Toc Tien and Truc Nhan. On this occasion, he talked about his musical career and personal life.

- Why did you accept to join the program?

- After Sing My Song - Best Song of 2014, I just returned to a music competition. For the past 10 years, I have been active mainly as a musician. I sang and released MVs but they were still obscure. Through the program, I want to show the audience something new, to escape from the comfort zone.

I keep a relaxed mindset instead of competing with my "older brothers", and I don't act up or intentionally create drama to attract attention. The audience will see me purely in terms of music. When the MV Fire song - title track - released, I was happy to see people leaving positive comments about my popping dance.

I am confident in my singing, music production and composing skills. Before, I was afraid of dancing because I had limitations in liberating my body. Before entering the program, I spent many months studying and felt excited. Now, facing strong dancing opponents like Trong Hieu and ST Son Thach, I no longer feel pressured. I do not care which round I will have to leave, but choose to enjoy the stage.

- Why have you only focused on becoming a singer now?

- Everyone entering showbiz must have the right time to make an impression on the public. I was lucky to be remembered as a musician first, earning money from my work. When everything is stable, I want to develop further because the dream of standing on stage has never died.

I admit that my singing voice is not bad. What I am looking for is a song that is enough to make a breakthrough and make my name popular. I have created hits for others but have not yet created a personal position. This seems contradictory, but that is the nature of music, it cannot be forced. If I selfishly keep the songs that are already famous for myself, it is not certain that the audience will accept them. I believe in fate in music, and am currently continuing to find the answer "Who is singer Bui Cong Nam?".

To solve the "problem", I think diligence and perseverance are necessary conditions. I have the ambition to be famous but not in a reckless way.

- What challenges have you faced in your career?

- In the past 10 years, I have experienced depression twice, losing all my emotions for music. After Sing My Song, I was confused about finding direction, not knowing where to start. In 2021, I failed in an investment, lost all my savings, and even had to sell some assets to cover the loss. I suffered from insomnia, my health deteriorated, and I couldn't compose a single sentence. When I was calm, I felt like everything was a challenge in life, and the sooner I experienced it, the faster I would learn to mature. Now, when I do anything, I calculate carefully, no longer being emotional or subjective.

In showbiz, if you are not brave, it is easy to fall. I have faced sexual harassment, mainly from men. They promised me money and a better life. When tempted, I flatly refused because it did not suit my nature and life goals.

When I decided to pursue music, I had great respect for the profession. I was aware that I had to create beautiful life values, inspiring the public and myself. I have accepted music writing contracts worth over 100 million VND, but I have also refused many unsuitable projects. I try not to let the illusion of material things and fame overwhelm me.

- What do you think you should change?

- Modern thinking and comfort with the profession are what I aim for. Compared to before, I am no longer shy and naive. Having gone through many things, I have learned to be brave and say no to the thought of giving up. Along with that, I know how to communicate and open up to share things that I did not dare to before, to get closer to the audience.

I'm afraid of being judged by others as arrogant or having a "better than others" mindset. I value modesty and the spirit of learning - values to survive in showbiz.

In my career, I continue to choose the slow but sure path because I have faith in myself. At my old company, everyone used to orient me to become the "new generation Ha Anh Tuan" version, but I found it completely unsuitable. Bui Cong Nam's style is to compose and sing many genres, with diverse topics instead of being limited.

- How is your love life now?

- I prioritize my career over personal happiness, and I haven't thought about getting married yet. My three older brothers are all married and have children, so I don't feel any pressure from my parents. They have quite modern thinking, so I can freely pursue my interests.

I am currently renting a house and feel very comfortable. I started saving again after the incident. empty handed, work hard to take shows to have money to invest in products

Every year, I regularly bring money back to give to my parents, buy land and put it in their name. I also opened a badminton court in my hometown so they can take the initiative to run a business and enjoy their old age.
