On November 13, India's UNI news agency reported that the Brazilian government announced that it would mobilize 9,000 security personnel to ensure security during the G20 Summit.

About 60 foreign delegations, including more than 40 heads of state and top officials, are expected to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the conference.

Previously, on October 29, Brazilian security officials said that security personnel from the country's armed forces would be mobilized to ensure security in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Missions will include escorting convoys, protecting critical infrastructure, patrolling roads and key areas, conducting counter-terrorism operations, electronic warfare capabilities, ensuring cyber defense, deploying air defense measures, protecting against drone attacks, and providing radiological, chemical-biological and nuclear defense.

The Navy will ensure maritime security by controlling access to Rio de Janeiro's ports, protecting coastal areas, protecting critical infrastructure and supporting land-based operations.

The Air Force will monitor and ensure airspace security at airport terminals as well as along the roads and areas surrounding Galeão and Santos Dumont airports.

According to the official website of the G20, the focus of discussions at this G20 will be on reforming global governance institutions, promoting social inclusion by creating opportunities for the poor, and accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy sources.

G20 leaders are expected to promote efforts to rebuild and strengthen the multilateral system, rooted in the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, with innovative institutions and a reformed governance that is more representative, effective, transparent and accountable, reflecting the social, economic and political realities of the 21st century.

Ahead of the conference, on November 12, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola said that the country expects this year's G20 Summit to strengthen multilateralism and reform global governance institutions by approving agreements negotiated throughout the year as well as providing ways to address global challenges.

South African officials also assessed that the country is playing an increasingly important role in supporting one of the host country's top priorities of reforming global governance institutions.

According to Mr. Lamola, South Africa sees the G20 as an important vehicle to promote the aspirations of developing countries and Africa's development priorities in particular.

South Africa is scheduled to assume the G20 presidency on December 1 and will host the group's summit in 2025.
